Subaru Stars Cypress not a good place to play...

with your car that is!

I wanted to see for myself the difference between the stocker tires and the Pilot Alpin PA2's I'm getting tomorrow.

So I went up to Cypress tonight at 8pm and did a bunch of swerving, starting & stopping, turning and oops. a couple big 180 degree slides in the top parking lot... 2 to be exact. Not with great speed just controlled all the way - probably one of the reasons I got away with no fine.

After the 2nd one I was about to drive away when the guy in a truck stopped me and asked if I was testing out my car. I agreed and he then politely told me that driving with undue care comes with a $455 fine. He then urged that I drive carefully and directly home.

Just wanted to let anyone else out there who wanted to be an idiot (although I was being as careful as possible - noone in sight) not to do it at Cypress - or for that matter anywhere else on public property.

peace - and sorry I wasn't trying to give Subies a bad name but I didnt' do it any good either.

ps can't wait to get my winter tires tomorrow

Just go to K-Mart after hours, drop a few road flares and some traffic cones out before you go nuts.

If a rent-a-cop comes to bug you, you can just say that the manager cleared it earlier in the day, but you can't remember his name.

If a real cop comes to bug you, then it's time to pretend the steering wheel is broken. Haha!

I got away with this sorta thing a few years ago at a university where I was drifting/sliding from lot to lot, staying just behind, and out of sight of, the univeristy patrol. I must of been hacking nuts in the snow for 35 mins before I saw another car approach. I just decided to calmly exit the area before they saw my car, and I didn't get in any trouble.

But now I'm an old phart and I can't drive like that at my age.. I'd probably get my car towed and get a suspension for doing such things.

Default Legal Fun in the Snow

If you want to play in the snow legally AND have a fun time, come on out to a TSD Rally event.
http://www.rallybc.com/archives/2003/2003_totem.html

We had a good 4-5 inches of snow on some of the stages, which had even more the next day and had to be cancelled because the two wheel drive cars couldn't handle it!

Yes, the winter TSD's that are put on are a perfect place to have fun legally. Every turn was sideways and some too sideways for comfort. (picture below)

I actually ended up driving in 2 ft of snow in the ditch to get out of there... AWD subaru power!

Default Don't go completely nuts on TSD's

Not completely sideways though... since you are still on open public roads. Still a chance of a local coming at you in another direction. They don't close the road stage to public.

that's correct... we did encounter some local traffic on this event, just like every event.. but even if you intended not to go sideways on some corners, the laws of physics said otherwise... you gotta play it safe wherever you go... especially on TSD's with blind corners and crests, they can hid oncoming logging trucks...

if you really want to push the car, auto-x/rally-x/ice-x/snow-x events are the places to be... not too many around here these days aside from auto-x though...

There are other places to play in the snow in Vancouver. You just have to know where they are.
