Post RX 7 doing 0-50 in 2 seconds?

I saw some guy say that...Now that's full of it...I think he's just being a proud owner of a car...He said a buncha stuff, like it's nearly impossible to spin his tires, it's the lightest car ever built..etc etc

The RX-7, depending which model you have is a fun car by all means. However a 2 second 0-60 time is something I'd pay to see...

I have an RX-7, it's a great car, even in the snow (it's the balance), it's light as hell. But believe me, I've never had any problems with letting the rear wheels loose.

It's coming time to sell it though, I don't drive it anymore now that I have my new 2.5RS...

Well to put it in perspective a Lamborghini Diablo SV which has 530 BHP and 4WD does the 0-60 in 3.7 seconds so if it is true that is one fast sumbitch. What size tires is he running the the rear?

Those #'s were out of CAR magazine BTW.

The 1995 RX-7 is pretty fast. 1.3L pumping out 255hp, now that is some ****. 0-60 in 5.6 and it's a rotary engine and that's about all I know about it.

Have a Nice Day?

The RX-7 is my favorite car, but 0-60 in 2 is what I'd like to call Impossible. A Diablo on hits 0-60 in 4 I believe.. I would love to own a Diablo too..

A jurnalist friend of mine was going to do a story one time on a guy that had a car collection-one of the cars being a Ford Cosworth RS2000 evo (I am not positive about the evo part, the rest I am).

Anyhow-on the street, with racing slicks-this car was supposed to go 0-60 in 2. I do however, believe it was a full-race rally car on race gas.

The Rx-7 will absolutely not do that with street tires. And even if it did on slicks,I wouldnt buy for one second that it would be streetable.

Have a Nice Day?

I don't even know if Adam Saruwatari's RX-7 can pull that number, and his is one of the fastest, if not the fastest RX-7 around last I heard.

Abel Ibarra just ran a 7.78 at 171 mph at the drag races last weekend with his 13b(1.3L) so 0-60 in 2 seconds is possible, but I don't think it would be streetable. Those rotaries are some awesome engines, though. Since my RS is for auto-x and offroad fun, I just got an 83 RX7
for a project street and drag car.

Supaman--I actually thought that the 3rd generation RX7s ran the 20b motor stock, which would make it a 2.0L
Most everyone switches to the 13b 1.3L

You gotta admit getting any good drag times from a 1.3L is pretty darn good.

Thumbs up

I hate to rain on everyone's parade but...
it IS quite possible to have a 2 sec. RX7.

Just hook it up to one of those cables the F-14s use to launch off an aircraft carrier.

Those aren't cables. It's some sort of steam jet thingy.... It will rip the RX-7 apart!

Ok boys, he's way off on the 0-50 time. A streetable 400hp RX7 will do 0-50 in about 3 seconds, however he is correct in his statement about spinning the tires. As a owner of two 3rd Gen RX7's i can attest that it is extremely difficult to spin the tires on dry pavement. Impossible while moving. Nearly impossible from a standstill. Why? the car makes such poor torque under 2000rpm that you have to be careful not to stall it while moving from a standstill. It is however possible to launch at redline(8000) and get a little bit of wheelspin, but the LSD stops that party before its even begun.

The cables are used for stopping, so I guess you could say the RX-7 will stop from 100-0 in less than two seconds....if there's enough of the car left to identify it.

Have a Nice Day?

The airplanes use a steam pressurized piston driven launch process. That's why you see all this steam excaping the ground after the aircraft leaves the flight deck. Go watch Top Gun again and you'll see what I mean. All the newest aircraft carriers have nuke power plants so producing steam is not a problem....

The wires are for stopping, again using steam pressure as a resistor to slow the aircraft down in a reasonable amount of time and space without ripping it to shreds.

The launch process would make 0-100 mph in about 1.6 seconds for any car but a Scooby would fly better since the trunk monkey would be able to keep the car together.

I know (for whoever asked), that the 3rd gen RX-7's have the 13B engine in them. And actually, i never knew of a 20B, unless it's the 3-rotor engine, but i didn't think they used that outside Le Mans racing.

Yeah I thought they all came with 13B engines. That's my understanding of it. Although you can put a 20B engine in the RX-7. Remember in SCC they showed a RX-7 with the 3-rotor engine (20B) that was making 500hp with a single turbo running at 10psi. They’re only like 5 or so running around with that kind of setup in NA from what I remember.
