Talking Help me please!

Hey folks! I just paid off my 96 2.2L, and I'm looking to get another car. I liked the Celica, the Miata, the A4, and the 2.5. I'm leaning (of course) to the Sube, but I need some help.

1. Are there any differences with the 2001 2.5?

2. Any more word on the turbo for 2002?

I can spend around 24K, so what do you think?

Thumbs up

If you have 24K you could get an RS for about 20 and put the rest towards some smart aftermarket parts and smoke all those cars! That is my plan BTW I had about the same budget. And this car is more fun and unique than anything else I have ever driven! did I mention fun? This car demands to be driven.

Get the RS.The MY00 seems to have fixed some of the problems that have plagued earlier performance minded subbie owners.
All I have heard about the turbo suggests it will be a 2.0l 230hp version. An NA 2.5RS with Shiv's TECII set-up is rumored to be able to be tuned for 210+hp w/o a cam change. Slap on a Turbo, and you are anywhere from 250hp to over 300hp depending on boost. That should get you up to around $24K. But then you gotta spend the money to make it handle with those HP. Start saving another $3-4k if you're gonna do it right.

The new WRX is probably going to have 220-230hp. It's also going to cost around $25-26k. To make an honest and very reliable 300 horsepower, you'll probably be looking at a turbo upgrade, a free-flow intake, bigger injectors, an intercooler upgrade, a downpipe, cat-back exhaust, boost controller, fuel controller and perhaps a higher flowing fuel pump. All this stuff will probably run another $4-4.5k, not including labor. So, for approx. $30k, you have a 300hp 16psi turbo Suby which is a wimp off-boost and below 3500rpm

OR, by a used MY99 or new MY00 for $17-20k, pay $3500-4000 for a good turbo kit with external wastegate and Spearco IC, $400 for a 3" turbo cat-back and another $2500 for a TEC-II (with big injectors, boost control and knock sensing). Total cost: ~$23-25k for a wonderfully torquey, reliable, 300hp Suby which gets 30mpg. You'll still have $5-7k left to spend on heavy duty differentials, wheels, tires, coilovers, etc,.
