Cool rolled a RX7 up in my... and smoked it

i was on my way back to work from lunch and happened to be next to a RX7. I believe it was a late '80s or early early '90s. It looked really nice too. great condition. It had soem vynal here and there. mazada speed or something like that. anways, the light turns green and i go. i look in my side miror. and i see him. then i look in my rear view. i seem him still. usually when i race i rarely see a car in my rear view. that means i'm smokein him. i was surprised he didn't catch up. i guess it's the battle of who's got the better bite to the pavement

btw i hate the sound of those rotory cars.
-M a t t

edit: forgot to mention, it was obviously not a turbo

I'm surprised too - those 13B's haul some ass. Good job on your victory. I actually like the sounds of rotories but that's just me.

That's an interesting point. Maybe he wasn't really getting into it with you.

Yeah, but the non-turbo late 80's RX7's did 0-60 in over 9 seconds.

Most Rx'7s that I have seen and ridden in are pretty quick. Not that our cars arent though. I need sleep.

My brother had a 2nd gen Rx7 for a while. It was a POS! Of course by the time we got it it had been abused it's whole life. The handling was strange. I hated the active rear steering they had built into them. It would have required a lot of work to make it fast. He ended up trading the '87 rx7 and a '90 Accord in on a new truck. On the way over to the dealership we drag raced each other. The Rx7 was running so badly that he almost beat me in his honduh.

2nd gen non turbos are not that quick, but the 2nd gen Trubo II is what you have to be careful of cuz they can even scare the 3rd gens sometimes.

you are also talking about a car that is at least 9 years old.

oh guys! i fogot to mention it was a little wet out. not too bad though but haha i love AWD.

i know he was racing me cus his tries were spinnin! I gave him the gas blip. then he answered back with the same. i looked at him, he looked at me and we raced. no need for verbal communication just let the engine sound say it all.

Hey guys!

I have a '88 RX7. It doesn't have as much torque as my '99 2.5 RS, but the power of the RX7 is very smooth, and non-stop too.(all the way up to the 7000 rpm red line)

The previous onwer abused the car, but I have been restoring it for the past five years, changing parts here and there.

Overall, the RS feels more "explosive", giving that sudden kick in the butt effect. Handles great in any kind of weather. The RX7 on the other hand is very smooth. The power comes in gradually, and never seems to run out of it(even without a turbo). And with a near 50/50 weight split, it's a great car to own.

LOVE THEM BOTH! WILL LOVE THEM EVEN MORE IF BOTH WERE TURBOCHARGED.

Ok, the convertible RX7 did 0-60 in 10.something seconds, maybe that's what threw me off.

RotrPwr, i said it wasn't a turbo. so we can rule that out. and it did happen! i know you didn't say it didn't but... i have a feeling you dont' believe me. it's not that hard when it's wet out!

Wink

Matt,
i'm sure you beat that car in the rain. I'm also sure that you could beat almost any rear wheel drive sports car(in the U.S.) in the rain. I love seeing these " i beat a...." or " i smoked a...." posts, but had this situation happened in the dry.......? well i would have said that that's pushing it. Take care.

I agree about 2nd gen RX-7's being fairly quick. Don't underestimate rotory power. I've seen a stock RX n/a run a 15.9...not bad for a 1.3 liter..

Thumbs down

Sorry to rain on everyone's parade but a few of you are mislead. First off RidnLow, i would recheck my sources on 2nd gen non-turbo 0-60 times. 86-92 Non turbos sprinted to 60 in 7.0-7.9 sec. Even running a 7.9 thats still good enough to run with or beat most of you nonturbo guys. The 87-90turbo II's ran 0-60 in like 6.7-7.0 which will smoke you guys or run with some of you turbo guys too! I'm not saying it didnt happen(especially in the rain) but some people are very mislead.

I seriously doubt he was trying to race you. Why is so many ppl who posts these type of threads think that everyone is out to race you? For all we care, you are the one who tries to race the other person who was minding his/her own business.

ok guys, i was just having fun obviously i will beat him when it's wet out

RotrPwr: o, i know if it was dry he would have smoked me! i know RX7's are fast and all. i'm not banging them.

Orbiter: did you see my post? it was wet out!

Gambit: what? how would u know if he was racing me or not? can you trasport from canada to wisconsin like *that*? re-read my posts. and while your at it check your last sentence for errors. What more can i say? and just to add this i have seen him before burning rubber around when he has spotted me.
