Default OT: ever consider owning a beater to kick around?

I'm not exactly in the position to look for a second car to have around and for the moment I'm quite satisfied with Ugly Duckling; I know I'd love to snag a sweet car like the STI or Evo, however, I also have a love for older more unique cars to kick around and modify. Any of you guys ever ponder about having a couple cheap beaters? Ever do any research into them?

I think the cars i'd definately love to have are:
4dr 4wd Justy
Isuzu Impulse RS
Pre 91 MR2
Pre 93 Golf Gti, or Rabbit Gti
323 Gtx

thoughts? btw. Anyone know if the Impulse RS came to Canada? And secondly, did they change from the carberator (sp?) to fuel injection in 1990 for the Justy?

I have an 86 MR-2 autox car that's spun a rod and needs a new engine.

I also have an 86 Audi 4000 quattro. It gets to do the fun stuff like rallyx, and the mundane stuff like have my mom drive it. It looks like an older jetta, but the dream is an engine swap. A chipped Audi 5000 turbo engine would make it a 230bhp AWD sleeper. Anyone with a stock WRX would have to watch out.

LOL, well ive steered it with my knees while drinking beer and turning up my dwight yokum YEEEEEHAW, but i havent tried sitting on top yet lol. The truck is for sale if anyone cares to know www.cardomain.com/id/tquinn then page 2. It is sooo fun, goes anywhere, its so fun cause its a small truck and it has independant front suspension so there is more REAL clearance then most full size lifted trucks

Tim

P.S. OMG the guy in that video is, once again, a moron!

Get an early 90's Colt 200 GT hatchback. Nice alternative to other hatchbacks out there.

Btw Reckon, I saw a Rally Blue Justy with a chrome muffler tip and all that jazz last week.

beater cars are good to have around, you will always have some thing to work on. at the moment I have too many cars and not enough cash to tweek them with. Ive got a 77 lotus with a v6 stuffed in it ,that is going to be a autoX / track car when im finished. she still needs lots of work

Yah. I suspect that Impulse parts are near impossible to find. Justy parts arent exactly that easy to grap either.

I'd definately go for some ae86s but they seem to be quite pricy for their age and condition...

I could use a second car now that my mom is feeling better. I should of buy that 800 bucks Civic HB from SFU. Sure it's 1986 but it wouldn't be too bad to fix it up.

If u want a beater that is reliable get a Civic or something that was real popular. Parts are readily available and prolly won't cost as much as the some of the rare beaters u listed..
