thanks everyone!

Alot of questions have been answered already... but I'll try my best to hit on others.

Actually on the pump gas map I dynoed ~310 and on C16 ~320. Also, that was with like only 270 tq!!! The powerband is WIDE though!

Based on that alone its pretty clear I am running out of turbo... but then when you actually see the boost curve in the upper rpm band... well, its sad really!!

Anyway... I am looking into turbo options... but nothing is really screaming "buy me!" so I just may tweak up what I have an be happy for a while.

Oh... I am sure the tranny does help, especially 4th gear. It really keeps me on top of the cams... basically 6-8k every shift.

Just to note, Turbo XS's mean ass gears are spec'ed out VERY similiarly and would do everybit as well, and hold up to a helluva lot more abuse. I must say though, the RA gears are holding up well... knock on wood!!

Oh... as for spool, right now it spools much like a VF30/VF34 on a USDM WRX... not really sure how a VF30 spools on this motor, however I have a pretty severe exhaust leak on the passenger side manifold flange. This also MAY be hurting how much boost I can hold as I really dont know how much exhaust its venting. Anyway, if I fix the leak I am sure it will spool a good bit quicker.

Also doug is not a small guy (not saying your fat doug) but if he was like the size ofa midget he could probally hit 11s
Yea... not small, nice way to put it Greg!

Just FYI, I weigh 225-235. At this time of year (and considering I ran the Sat after Thanksgiving during which I had THREE Thanksgiving dinners!!) I may have weighed more!! lol!

Oh... and this was with my new STi spoiler, which weighs at least 20lbs more than my stocker.

320 whp ~3250lbs and 115 traps.....the numbers just don't add up.

Every WHP/trap/ET calculator out there say you should be pushing 370-380whp any weight reductions?

Yea... I posted before that I pulled the backseat and passenger seats, and just about everyone takes the spare out.

With full interior I trapped low 114s/high 113s.

Weight wise, my car with driver for the 12.0 run was sitting at about 3150-3200 lbs.

BTW- in regards to the dyno numbers, the only thing suspect about them would've been my rear diff.

It decided to blow up 5 miles after the tune @ Turbo XS. It had been acting up on the way down and got worse and worse. When Nathan and Phil went for a road tune they came right back because it had gotten that bad.

Nathan did say however, that the torque split looked right.

eh... who knows... Somehow my car has always ran faster than it should have. I dynoed 193 whp in Jan '02, then in Feb 02 ran 13.3 @ 101, and eventually in May ended up with a 13.097 @ 103.11, not bad for 193 whp!!

Doug, You have awesome area under the curve with your motor, heads, cams and turbo setup. The RA gears help you stay in the power curve to make the most of your setup, and once up to speed the FMIC is adding some HP that will never show up on a dyno.

To top it all off, as a driver you've learned to make the most of everything your car has to offer.

Good luck getting that last .1 off the ET. I hope you manage it before the end of the season.

Yea... it all adds up I suppose. Goes to show that peak power isn't everything! So many people get hung up on that...

Thanks again Nathan!

Doug,

Great job! You definitely got that car dialed!

I guess our dyno must read low

I noticed that too. It seems he is 5mph high for that whp or 50whp low for that trap. Some of it has to be gearing, but 5mph?

At anyrate, 115 is 115. That's especially good on that pea-shooter turbo.

just now caught this... if I do have nitrous, someone needs to show me where so I can get the tank refilled, cause its gotta be empty!!

Seriously... I am very much against nitrous, UNTIL I am to the point where I have the biggest baddest turbo on my car and STILL need to go faster... then I'll consider it.

Basically, I know I can get low 11s with a pretty decent turbo set-up (which I am planning)... at that point I may consider nitrous to break into the 10s... but not before!

Finally got the dyno pics up:

Cropped to fit...

Just to note though... during the quarter mile run, I dont see more than 17 psi on my gauge through ALL gears.

Man, I'm making 345whp.. how come I can't trap 115?! My best so far was a 112.. maybe cause the VF30 is completely outta breathe by the time I hit 4th and try to make that thing hold 20+psi for like 5 seconds.

Does gearing help trap speeds?

Doug, how much torque did you make? And was the run done on full interior?

Full interior, my best run was 12.200 @ 114.42. but I had a crappier sixty foot, 1.804.

I am guessing with full interior I could do 12.1s pretty consistantly.

What I pulled out ofthe car for the 12.05:

rear seat cushion
rear seat back
pass. seat
spare tire and tool kit

ohh... and I think gearing makes a huge difference. The OEM 4th gear is so much longer than mine... 0.972 (stock) vs 1.151 (RA). Makes all the difference in the world!
