Default Colorado College?

I am going to Colorado College in a Jan. What are everyones experiences with it? Also I am basically going there to ski, I have heard about season passes for multiple resorts. What are my options on that?

No offense, It's known around here as the school for rich kids who got C's in highschool.

Beautiful campus, downtown colorado springs. They have a good hockey team.

Are you talking about Colorado Mountain College in Leadville or Colorado College in the Springs??? CMC is vey small but awsome campus location. Theres not much to do in Leadville though... and Aspen is a little drive away. I had a cross country race on the campus every year in high school and it almost always snowed.

I am going to Colorado College in Colorado Springs. So the students there are hated by the town? That wont really matter to me though.

LOL, you'll definately have a lot in common with the other students. And if you don't have a lot in common, at least you'll have the fact that you are there basically to ski in common!

I've got a friend who goes to CC in Colorado Springs, and she really enjoys it there. From what I hear it's a good school

hope that you like hippies....

haha... it is not that bad...

Depending on where you are coming from, CoSpgs is a small town and can get boring... I am kinda new to the area, and to me it seems like a big suburb, with no city. Downtown is really fun, but only like 6 blocks. Kinda sad. You can't beat the view though. Amazing!

Good luck.

What is the hippie to normal person ratio? Co Springs is a lot bigger than the town that I live in right now in CA, so I shoudn't get that bored. But is there any sort of seaon pass for multiple resorts that I can buy right now?

hippie to normal ratio is sketchy.... hahaha... At CC there are defeinetly some there, but I do not think that it is too bad.

The multiple resort pass is called the Colorado Pass. I know that you can get it here at the REI stores.... but I think that you have to get the pass early. Try a search on Colorado Pass... or stop into your local REI (if they are around in your neck of the woods).

My office is on the edge off campus, the students are fine, relatively normal. School get's respect, students too. No bad reputation.

I THINK, key word is think here, that all the season pass specials are done, over, fin. What would have been around $300 is now going to run somewhere around $1000

I had my pass pulled a few years ago and they wouldn't let me get a new one for the price I payed. They were going to make me pay full price which was a grand.

By the way, don't ask.

You have to be a real Schmuck to get a$1000 pass pulled for good

Good thing the impending avalanche didn't take your pass instead

Default Why not Boulder?

I know you have already made your decision but did you ever consider The People's Republic of Boulder? Much closer to better ski resorts. Much closer to Denver. School is awesome town needs some work (hint why I call it "The Peoples Republic of Boulder")

You will love the Springs also but you are a little further from Winter Park which will become my life for the next 6 months. There is nothing like being able to ski and go to class in the same day, capped off by a nice trip to the bar for some late night spirits.

I am fine with the crowds, it is no different than Tahoe. I got accepted by Boulder too, but I decided to got to Colorado College because it seemed better geared towards me. Also how far is CO Springs from Breckenridge? I plan to ski there mostly since they have one of the top parks in the country and hopefully I can get sponsored by the end of the year.

It is less than 90 minutes away, nice roads, nice views on the way, and CS is not such a hippie pot smoking town like Boulder

Boy, I really miss Colorado Springs - the people in that city sure do put the FUN back in FUNdamentalist.

Anyway, I grew up outside of CS (Black Forest) before it was polluted with the Focus On the Family crowd. CC is a great school. It is an island of sanity in a sea of uber-conservatives.

Colorado Springs is an interesting town. There is a high transient population due to the military. Culture is limited, but you're going to ski, so that's not a big deal.

Depending on the weather, you should be able to get to the resorts in 1.5-2 hours. Breck is a MAJOR destination resort. Yes, they have a good terrain park. They also have an obscene amount of tourists that mob the mountain. That town is a zoo during Spring Break.

If you mountain bike, there are some great trails around town and just outside of town.

I have never had to wait more than 5-10 mins for a lift at Breck... I thought that it was fairly crowded on the bunny slopes (changing from lift to lift)... but the tough stuff did not have too many people...

haha... and what is this about uber-conservatives in CoSps??? I guess I have not met them yet. Don't let them know that I am here. Wait, I hope that I am not one of them...

You are always going to have conservative roots in a "military town"... 3 AF bases and a monster Army base would make this close to a military town.

Woohoo! Winter start!

I guess I'm the only CC student on the boards here, so let me dispell some of the myths...

Yes, there are a lot of hippies and yes, they tend to smell funny. It's not very difficult to avoid them if you make a small effort. There is a rather segregated social scene on campus. Hippies have their own parties.

Yes, the townspeople tend to dislike CC student because CC students tend to be a55holes when they go into town. If you act like a decent human being, you won't have any problems.

Yes, there are a lot of rich kids at CC. I have a theory that all of the rich suburban kids who went on ski vacations when they were younger end up at CC (at least that's how I got here). Some of them are punks, but most are great people. At the same time, CC has done a great job of increasing diversity through scholarships and grant opportunities. We also have a new president who actually takes a personal interest in the campus and students.

If you want to go skiing or boarding, there are FUCC (Free-Riders Union of Colorado College) vans that drive up to Breckenridge pretty much every weekend. Some of us even drive up after class on weekdays to hit night-skiing at Keystone.

Hope that answers all your questions. Email me if you want to know anything else.

Does anyone have any idea what type of ski rack I should get for my WRX wagon so that I can carry a couple pairs of skis on it? I would prefer it to be affordable and lockable.

Colorado Springs is an hour farther to the resorts, while Boulder is 1/2 farther from the resorts since both require you to more or less drive to Denver to get to the resorts. And while the Springs is your ultra conservative church going town, Boulder is the opposite hippie, pot-smoking, liberal, yoga, tree-hugging place.

Get a Thule or Yakima (or some other brand) enclosed box to carry your skis if you don't want them to get bombarded by sand, salt, and rocks. Otherwise, if you don't care much for your skis, just buy a cheap rack with 4 arms.
