Post I don't get this....

How the heck can a 212hp Impreza turbo hit 60mph in 5.4ticks?! I mean even an S4 with 250hp can't do that! Not to mention those Mustang GTs with 280hp!

Maybe it has something to do with power:weight? I don't know.

Same reason that our 165hp Impreza RSs are able to win stoplight-to-stoplight drags: traction and short gearing. From all the drag timeslips I've seen posted, the 0-60foot times are right up there with much more powerful cars.

If they were timing 0-100 mph, it'd be a different story. The S4 and the Mustang GT would eat you for lunch most likely. I dunno about the turbo Impreza GT. I guess I'll find out myself soon when I get my car back (with a turbo).

power-to-weight ratio and gearing

the Impreza won't go 150 mph like the S4 will either

Since the S4 is also AWD, then it's coz the S4 is heavier than the WRX. Sure it's got mroe power, but like the others said, power to weight ratio is an important factor. A 90hp bike will still blow away a $130,000 Porsche in the quarter mile.

Well how about say a Prelude which has 200hp but only manages 7 seconds? It should way about the same as the WRX minues 12hp....

don't forget, tourque is just as, if not more important than HP, and Honda VTEC's don't have any low end tourque

The Prelude has a traction impairment because weight is being transferred to the two rear tires that are just along for the ride.

Oh since we're on the Prelude topic, can anyone tell me how this ATTS works in a stock SH and how an SH compares to a base Prelude?

Alwin, ATTS is like a more advanced LSD, basically, an LSD transfers power to the wheel with more grip, the ATTS does it as well, but in a way that you could get power-on oversteer.

Just for the friggin hell of it, I'm going to go TD a prelude, apparently they are 7.7 secs to 60, tested by SCC, same as the RS. I'd like to see.

ATTS is an active differential-- the Lancer EVO5 and 6 have a pair of them.

What it does is send the "right" amount of torque to each halfshaft depending on what it thinks the vehicle is doing based on yaw, vehicle speed, steering angle, wheel speed and throttle input.

The downside is weight, complexity and cost.

edit: jaimak, they are faster 0-60 than a stock 2.5RS. period.

While we're kinda on the topic of FWD dragging... does anyone know if they banned the pre-loaded wheelie bars like FWD cars were using to keep the front wheels on the ground? Last I heard they were going to do it because it was a traction hazard (kinda balancing on the front wheel with little weight on the rears, just on the wheelie bar).

Now that I think about it, it isn't really a wheelie bar in this case, but what else can you call it? LOL
