Smile Me Vs. Saleen Mustang

Beat a Saleen mustang off the line today, granted it was raining really hard and the roads were very slick...still it's the idea! It was great light turned green and I ditched him for about 5 seconds and then he passed me, just curious though what are the numbers on those (hp etc.) how many do they make per year cause I've seen 3 in a week now...all yellow maybe it's the same guy though.

That was kinda a one sided race. Under normal weather conditions he probably would have killed you. But you were in your element and showed him power is nothing without traction!

Hell thats nothing. Why when I was 7 I jumped a corvette, camaro, firetruck, funny car, jeep, a bus, and a helicopter all in one jump. I got on my bike and went at it as fast as I could with limited traction. It helped to be on a sugar high from one too many jawbreakers. I came flying up on the ramp and launched off of it. I tell you for a second I thought I was in trouble when I was on the ramp. I thought I wasn't going to be going fast enough. No worries though. I cleared it with plenty of room. So much room infact that I ended up going across the street and into some bushes. I tell you those Hot Wheels were lucky I had my good old Huffy or they would have been wearing bicycle tread for racing stripes. That was the first time I flirted with danger. Every since then I've been an adrenaline junky. Then again it could have been the sprinkler head I smacked my head on under the bushes.

John,

When the road is dry, it's a one sided race too (it's the PoonStangs element) Take advantage of a good situation when you can.

Jeff - there are a number of different Saleen models, ranging from nothing more than a body/wheel & tire/handling package (with the stock 260hp) up to a blown S351 making 450+hp. Even the low end model (the S281) is no slouch.

Are you sure he knew you were trying to race him? Most Mustang/Camaro/Firebird owners see a subaru and see a little rice moblie and just start laughing thinking it's not even worth it to try and race us. And they are partially correct (hate to say it) but stock we probably don't even have a great chance in the rain. (just my opinion)

i disagree, in the rain i think the impreza
has a decided advantage. Besides the fact that the average subaru owner's IQ is
slightly higher than the average ponycar
owner's IQ (imo, but if you could ever
actually test this, who would bet against me?) the traction just isn't there most of the time in the wet for rwd cars. I live
in houston and the roads get VERY slick and
even light throttle spins the tires like mad. Without the road salt and yearly snow the roads keep a thin layer of oil and goop that just builds up over time. It's been said over and over again 0-30 in the wet
is the impreza's domain and you'd be hard pressed to find ANY car that'll beat it for under $30k, unless they've got a powered by
"acura" sticker across the windshield and
a mini-turbo shaped oil cap

Funny you should mention a Saleen...

I tried to race one yesterday, on dry pavement... It said "supercharged" on the trunk, but that's all I know. I more or less just wanted to see how his car took off. That, and he was revving the engine to show off too much...

I heard his tires chirp, so I know he was giving it some effort, but I did see him in my mirror... Then we both gave up, cause it wasn't completely fair anyway... I wasn't completely stopped when the light changed, but I was under 5 mph...

Damn, I wish I had stopped first... then I would at least know the truth

Have a Nice Day?

ok, I guess I had a long night. I was staring at Jeff 2.5RS's name and John2.5RS's name thinking they were the same person. I was really confused for about 5 minutes, trying to figure out how he was a newbie, then he wasn't. lol, I must rest now.

nice job!!! although, I do know of a AWD drive car that has beeten 2 saleen mustangs, 3000GT VR-4. if our cars had the power of that car, and the 4-wheel steering, it would be un-beatable. that car had to weigh at least 3500lbs, so imagine 320bhp with our light cars, cool huh?

The last "street meet" I went to, I killed a 351sc, but so did two Type R's that was on the bottle. It wasn't a good night for the poor guy. Bad thing was he was givving this kid a bad time about "rice rockets" when he picked on of the Type R's (which was supposed to be the fastest import out there) to run.. got stomped, came back and took on this guys buddy with a new type R (still had paper plates) got stomped on again. After walking through the "pits" parking lot he must have decided that a Subaru would be EZ meat for him. (I did not open the hood on my car yet) He got stomped from the get go all the way past the 1/4 mile mark and the 1 mile mark. I have NEVER heard so much trash talking by ANYBODY before, as this kid gave this guy in the Saleen. It was pityfull

Thumbs up

I'm sure he was trying to race me as he was sitting there at the light revving his engine staring at me. Ne emotions in his face at all just blank stare and rev, thought it was a bit odd but raced him anyway. He didn't say or look at me when he passed just the blank stare down the road. Oh well his 280+hp still couldn't beat my 165 off the line I had a clear advantage though it hadn't rained in a while and the roads were still very slick from all the oil that gathers when it's dry.

Thats 4 wheels against 2, thats about the only circumstance a Impreza would have an advantage. I think its fair, after all he did say the Saleen passed him after he got some grip...

Are you guys sure these guys are racing you? I am waiting for the "Me vs. Mclaren F1 post".. It was raining and I got him off the line........
