Default Car and Driver Description of Forester XT Engine

I have the impression that SOA has a lotta love for Car and Driver magazine. Didn't C&D report the best 0-60 for the WRX? I now presume that C&D gets SOA's undivided attention and support on technical issues.

So I read C&D's article about the Forester XT at http://www.caranddriver.com/article....rticle_id=6854 and see this:
Quote:
There's a patented new trick to this engine, too. Ichikawa-san's engineers found that the aluminum rear main bearing cap was letting the crankshaft wobble a bit, opening up the bearing clearance over time and generating a rattling noise. So they invented a new kind of main bearing cap that has a shaped sintered-steel core and an aluminum wrapper that does the job with two conventional bolts. The 2.5-liter XT turbo engine also gets a new semi-closed-deck block, heavy-duty connecting rods, forged pistons, and a drive-by-wire throttle setup.
Very technical and the emphasis in the quote above was mine and I'm wondering — did C&D just make that stuff up or did they rely on SOA information?

Nasioc Nazi?

Well it is ok to post new information like this. Any whining can to go the SOA Issues forum.

What we can deduce is that the press kit for the XT contained this info.

everyone gather around and hug... people always have to complain when people form rational opinions of why they cant keep on with the same non-sense or someone does their job...

I would think they got the same press packet that everyone else did and that it is or looks a lot like the one you posted.

Yup... if C&D is anything like other car mags, they go off of what the manufacturer sends to them. It's just a matter of what info they end up passing on, which is usually not much.
