Post lowered.... seats?

OK... here's my problem. I usually sit pretty far back and have the seat reclined enough so I don't have problems w/ headroom. However, in order to be in the proper position for auto-x (seat back up, wrists able to go over steering wheel, HELMET on), there's no way for me to sit fully upright. Even if I **** my head to the right I have to open the sunroof because the helmet stick out about a half inch. I'm 6', and I know some of you out there are MUCH taller than I am, so my question is:

is there a way to lower the stock seats? I definitely don't have the funds for aftermarket seats, although they are in the master plan, somewhere after suspension, engines, brakes, etc.

any ideas?

dont quote me on this
but i have heard that the forestor seat rails will bolt up to the rs seats. they have a height adjuster
other thatn getting a race seat and a custom mount for it.
i did the latter one with the MOMO street racers

The Forester seats sit taller than the RS seats so that won't help even though they have a height adjustment.

The RS seats can not be lowered.

You best bet is to go aftermarket. Just buy one, you don't need the other one

However at 6' you shoudln't be having any headroom problem in the RS. You must have a HUGE torso.

Gee,
I was gonna replace with mounting plates on my stock rails with custom ones. From looking at the stock ones, you could probably get about 0.5" more headroom. The only trick is getting nice custom mounting plates made....Kartboy, did I hear you volunteer?

Hey, leave the guy alone... I'm about 6'1", and my head hits too. I know I sit really pretty close for my height, but I like it that way. That's why I recently sold my Sti seats, so I could get some Sparco's and custom mounting plates.

Hey Ownly!

Can someone get in and out of the back seat with the non-reclining race seats? Or is it trunk monkeys only in the back?

Pilot,

Huge torso? Actually... not really. I usually sit w/ the seat all the way back on the rails and reclined 3-4 clicks. For race I move the seat forward 2 clicks and have the seat full upright. Even w/o the helmet, I'm less than an inch away from the roof when I plant my butt down and don't slouch.

So... I guess the aftermarkets lower ~2" ? I'm a pretty big guy, what brand seat would be better? I know some are narrower than others. Also, how much $ am I looking at for just one seat?

Hey O,

How comfortable are those Evo 2's for you? I tried the Recaro SPG racing shells, & I was completely uncomfortable as soon as I sat down. I felt like they were pushing my head forwards & forcing me to hunch over. Is this a trait of racing shells or was it just those particular Recaros?

Ender,
My preference is the Recaro SRD. LAthough for a non-adjustable Recaro the Pole Position is designed for bigger folks like you and me. http://www.recaro-nao.com/ http://www.recaro-nao.com/seattechno...gseat/main.htm

MOMO makes two non-adjustable seats that come in XL sizing. The Acroplolis XL and the Mirage S.

I will be the first to answer any questions on Ownly's Sparco Evo2s!

I am 6'3 and 245 lbs! I went in and out of the back seat with no problem!
What I mean is that I went into the back seat and I came out with no permanent damage to my body!
As far as the comfort of the seats go, THEY ARE FANTASTIC!

I usually sit on the passenger seat of Ownly's car, but I can still get the feeling of the comfort and space of the Sparco Evo2s offer to big people.

Now for Ownly's previous post, oooooohhhh Saprco, Sexyyyyyyyyyyyyyy ...oooohhh Sparco, Sexyyyyyyyyyyyy....

Take care!
Janush
P.S. Nice to hear fro you Ownly! I was getting worried, you got lost in the Subaru dealer!

Ender: I had the same problem when I first got my car. After a few months of driving it, the seats either broke down a little, or I changed my driving position, because I can now sit how I want to without hitting my helmet.

Thumbs up

I must say, with my 6'2" of noggin hitting stature, a tightly fitted 5-point harness sucks you down into the seat plenty to fit your helmet in the car. I have a long torso, so I've had this problem with every car I've auto-x'ed. Other than aftermarket seats this appears to be the hot ticket.

Janush, i'm gonna have to slap your bum when i come back for answering for me (i know you'd like it)

what he said is right, but to me a 2 door car is a 2 seater... and to dismantle the myth of race seats being bad for long drives, i'll tell you i could not support to drive the car for more that 1.5 hour at a time but with these seat i've done 6 straight hours of driving many times,
(MTL-->TO, MTL-->QC-->MTL in one day)
no probs... i love those seats...
