Question EJ25 exhaust advice please...

I currently have an Apex exhaust on my 2.5RS, but it's pretty scuffed and dented due to the car's previous owner. I bought this nice shiny catback exhaust setup off of eBay to replace it.
It wasn't until after I had already bid and made payment that I realized that it uses 3" diameter pipe. I remember hearing that you really shouldn't go any bigger than a 2.5" pipe on my car. Is this true? What happens when you use a 3" pipe on an NA EJ25 engine? Will I lose power? Or even worse, will it damage the engine somehow? Please help, I'm not sure what to do....

Thanks a ton people, I love my car too much to hurt it in any way.

It definetely will not damage your engine. However, you will lose a healthy amount of low-end torque. And I would be suprised if you gained any power anywhere in the powercurve.

If you plan on Forced induction later on. I would just keep it for that time.
Or if you plan on making a N/A beast, it will suffice for that as well. But I'm talking a healthy boost in compression and some high-lift, high duration cams. Not just bolt-ons.

Can you return it? Or possibly just use the muffler? And then sell whats left.

Nope, it was one of those "sold as-is" auctions. No big deal though, I'm only out 160 bucks for it. Another question though, and this is for anyone, does anyone have Borla headers on their car? I also bought a set of those and I'm wondering if they're all they're advertised to be. Please, be honest...

From what I've heard, they are the best on the market, price considering.

Great, appreciate the input!
I forgot about the search button until now, so I just found a bunch of posts about them, so thanks!

well the borlas give 4 whp and 7 wftlb gains iirc, not the highest gains you can get from headers, but everyone loves the sound, and their the cheapest by far other then the borla knockoffs

as for the catback, yeah, 3" as said is to big, what about finding an exhaust shop to make a custom midpipe and weld a new 2.25" pipe onto the muffler itself with some adjustments, just gotta find one that can deal with stainless steel if its stainless

Good idea, but that'd be too much work to salvage an exhaust that didn't cost me that much in the first place. I think I'll just sell what I have to someone who can give it a good home and just buy a good catback setup instead.
