Default Finally replaced my stock hu

Well, I finally replaced my stock hu with a JVC KD-SX990 and OMG what a difference it made. I thought the stock speakers were crap but it was the hu. Now sure the speakers are not that great, and they still distort, but they distort at a higher volume with the JVC. I will be replacing the speakers but that is later on down the road. I want to go with components in all 4 doors, not sure what brand yet. I also have a JBL BassPro powered sub sitting in the livingroom that I need to install, and I will get around to that soon. Just wanted to let all the other noobs out there that haven't done anything with their stereo that it seems to me that the hu would make a bigger difference than the speakers if you don't have the money to change everything at once. Good luck with your own endeavors. And P.S. Crutchfields wiring harness for the 04 is right on. Every wire in it is labeled correctly.

I'm using the Roady with my JVC LH-2000. The unit didn't have a standard Aux in, so i had to buy the JVC Aux input adapter that connects to the CD Changer plug in the back. XM is nice but the sound quality is sorta poor. sounds like average quality internet radio some of the time.
The variety is great and with the regular Radio, XM, and my MP3 cds, I'll never be bored in terms of musical selection.
Here's some pics. I'm still waiting on the free home kit so I'm using the antenna at home and in the car at the moment so i haven't done a permanent install of it. It'll look nicer once I do that.
Here are some pics

Yes my camera does suck

Here is a closeup of the stereo installed. I wanted to put the din pocket at the top so I wouldn't have to close the cupholder to change the cd but it didn't line up with the holes in the side brackets. I could have drilled some new holes, which I am thinking of doing when I install my JBL BassPro since I have to remove the stereo to install it. I need to splice off of the power antenna wire to remote turn on the JBL.

The stock 6Disc changer is crap. Put in the Pioneer from my old car, and the difference was amazing. I really have to crank it to get any distortion now. It'll probably blow the stock speakers eventually, but that will give me the excuse to spend the money on new speakers.

Hey Skyhawk,

Is that din pocket from the Legacy or Forestor, or is it a generic one?

Thanks.

I have a JVC KDSH99 from about 2 years ago. Really great head unit, I'm really pleased with it. Only bad thing, when it is really cold out, the cd may not eject.
Otherwise a bare bones warhorse than can take a beating and it sounds excellent.

Looks like the one Crutchfield sends with single DIN HU for double DIN applications.

Legacy pockets rock!!!

Cool thanks. I thought Skyhawk's din pocket looked mighty roomy. I hope the legacy pocket has good storage too. I just ordered one from subaruparts.com.

I'm running a KD-SH99 (I beleive) and it has both rear and front inputs. I want to setup some XM stuff into the aux inputs, but I don't want to drop the money on XM. I would love to have radio sans commercials. I would pay that much for it, but it is quite a bit for an XM receiver and antena.

Oh well, I'll just keep listening to cds for now
