Post The Status of the Whiteline groupbuy

RalliSpec has been inundated with emails and phone calls related to the Whiteline groupbuy we recently offered. We would like to offer the following explanations and apologies. It saddens us that despite offering, by far, the best Whiteline pricing available anywhere (even Whiteline CALLED us to question our sanity..the pricing was at or below DEALER pricing here in the states) we are still unable to satisfy some of our customers. We have always made great efforts to keep our customers fully satisfied...often taking a hit financially to do so. Well here is the status:

Whiteline shorted us 31 sets of rear links and 15 18-22 swaybars. In addition there was some confusion regarding the heavy duty swaybar mount part numbers and so we ended up with mounts for the 20-24 bar instead of 18-22 which was what most of the orders were for. We have sent out every order possible. Partial orders have been sent when it was acceptable to do so (if you only ordered front & rear links we did not send only the front links because of the excessive shipping costs of two separate shipments). The remaining items are due to arrive next week...basically we had 85 orders and simply wiped out Whiteline of just about every Subaru item they had...in fact we revised our order with them 3 times over the course of the groupbuy.

So you ask, why was my credit card charged when my order wasn't ready to ship? Simply due to the fact that we had to process 85 orders in a very short time and were not fully aware of how many items Whiteline shorted us until we started boxing things up. Sorry this is not our usual policy.

There is also some question relating to the big swaybars...we recieved an accusatory email from a certain customer indicating that we had basically ripped him off intentionally. Here is his email (verbatum):

"After a LONG wait, I finally received my anti-roll
bars late last week. On Saturday I did the
installation on my 1999 Impreza 2.5RS.

I ordered the big bar combo, i.e. 22mm front bar, and
20-24mm adjustable rear, along with the upgraded rear
chassis mounts.

First of all, the front bar is not 22mm, I measured it
at 20.5mm. I was expecting an 80% increase in
anti-roll bar stiffness, but due to the actual size of
the bar, it is only 34% stiffer. I am not pleased
with this. Basically, this is tantamount to false
advertising. Had I known the bar's actual dimensions,
I would not have considered it a worthwhile upgrade.

The rear bar is advertised as being adjustable from an
equivalent stiffness of a 20mm bar to that of a 24mm
bar. The actual bar diameter is 22mm, however, even
in it's stiffest position (shortest lever arm), the
lever arm is longer than that of the FHI bar which it
replaced. This means that it can't even achieve
equivalent stiffness of a 22mm bar, much less a 24!

If the front bar had actually been the size it was
advertised as being, this rear bar would not have been
able to match the stiffness increase, resulting in
excessive understeer. From that standpoint, I suppose
it's good that the front bar was undersized.

Lastly, the rear chassis mounts for the anti-roll bar:
The driver's side fits without problems. However,
the passenger's side will not fit. The gas filler
tube is in the way, as well as the evaporative
emissions canister. Therefore, it has not been
installed.

I thought I would give you the opportunity to respond
to these items before posting anything on the message
board. All I can say is that I am very unhappy with
what I received, especially considering the amount of
time that I spent waiting. Due to the misrepresented
bar sizes, I am hesitant to even call this an upgrade,
as the change is so small. I await your response."

Ok, first of all, please don't threaten people, it's bad manners, and yes this customer did have a long wait...but he placed his order prior to the group buy and then asked to be added to the groupbuy once it was underway...which we obliged.

Second, the 22mm bar was misadvertised. We sincerely apologize as the bars we recieved in were assumed to be 22mm based on previous purchases, however it appears that perhaps we were sent or misordered and recieved 20mm bars. Anyone who ordered the 22mm front will be permitted to return their bar for a full refund (including shipping) or given the opportunity to exchange it for a 22 front bar when we get them in. This was not done intentionally and a simple call or email to bring this to our attention in a non-accusatory manner would have been more than welcomed.

Third, the 20-24mm bar is 22mm. The center hole is a 7.5" lever arm while is the stock RS 13mm bar is the same. If you are able to come up with alternative measurement then please feel free to contact the manufacturer.
(02) 9603-0111

Fourth, if you anticipated having too much understeer with this setup then why did you purchase this seutp to begin with?

Fifth, the heavy duty mounts have never been tested here in the states where emissions laws differ from Australia. If it doesn't fit then please send it back...however, to all who are reading this, this item was inherited from the original group buy and has never been an item that we carried previously. Again, all we can do is offer to take the product back...if you have any further issues, please take it up with Whiteline. The number is above.

As to threatening to post this on the I-club...we've taken the liberty of doing this for you. We now throw this topic up for discussion. We have done everything we can to keep our customers happy. If there are other ways in which we can assist you we hope that they will be brought to our attention.

---RalliSpec

Thank you for your open-door and honest policies RalliSpec.

I find it very refreshing and genuinely pleasing that you are sharing your problems in a fair and civil manner.

It is a shame however, that too many people in this world choose to treat correctable mistakes as if they were purposely ripped off when a few calmly worded inquiries can eliminate confusion.

I would like to appologize on behalf of the decent, level headed people on this board that understand that ***** happens in this world. I'm also sorry to hear that you have to deal with this particular a$$hole as a customer.

Sincere Regards,
Mark Brand

Personally I got my stuff on time and in perfect condition (ok, the box coulda used a LITTLE more tape, but who cares, it got here fine & undamaged). To this I would like to praise Rallispec on this group buy.

Secondly, to stick up for Whiteline - you can only make so much so fast! Look at the JC Sports group buy for the intakes... their fabricators were the problem since they couldn't crank them out fast enough, it was JC Sports' fault!

Rallispec just wiped out Whiteline and I'm willing to bet that Whiteline is scratching their head wondering where they're going to come up with stock fast.

As in response to the turbo kit... who cares! Where is the supercharger kit?

Wow... first of all, I was part of the buy and got exactly what I ordered in the time expected. The timeframe for this buy was about a month open (including a vendor switch), then under a month for almost every item to be shipped. (Compare with SOA's parts problems not too long ago!)

It would have been nice to have received an email confirmation of shipment, my name spelled right, and the box undamaged, but given the explosion of demand all of this is understandable.

As for this customer, perhaps he has had bad experience with other vendors... I know I have a habit of writing inflamatory email sometimes when it's really not the best thing to do. Hopefully he will be satisfied with your extremely generous response, this certainly encourages me to do further business with you if I have the need.

(Oh, I think the bar I got said "20mm" on it somewhere... I don't want a 22mm bar, time to get out the calipers...)

dooon't worry. Take ur time. As long as I get my product in good, working condition at an excellent price (which it is) take ur time. I learned this from the JC Sports intake GB. Yah, it took two months. But 130 for an awesome product. Money's kinda hard to come by, at least for me, and so any amount of money that I CAN save towards an other purchase, i'd gladly wait. Besdies, I doubt that i'm gonna install these before next spring. 'fraid of driving with an even stiffer setup during my first winter driving. So, to Rallispec, from which I have heard NOTHING but the utmost praise, take ur time and do it right. I'm sure I speak for a lot of people, we appreciate this honesty.

I have to agree with everyone else. I got my rear bar in a generous amount of time and the only thing wrong was the bar sticking halfway out of the box but who cares. It is a huge bar of iron!

rallispec,
i just want to thank you for getting me a great product at a great price. as far as being "late"... who cares?? it was clearly stated in your email that the product had to be ordered and was in no way in stock.

i've grown very used to waiting longer on group buys, but if you aren't willing to wait buy it at full price.

thanks again

Rallispec,

Maybe you should have made sure that this group buy was something you could handle before undercutting iSR Subaru like that. I agree with you, the customer email you received was in poor taste; however, he/she did seem to be mostly justified in their complaints. Why did you send the front bars out if you knew they were the wrong size? The customer said they checked the size themselves and found the bars to be too thin. So maybe we should all be thanking him or her for discovering this error. Would anybody else have discovered it, maybe... maybe not (Rallspec didn't).

The threat was lame, the rebuttal was lame. It's very cool for Rallispec to tell everyone upfront of the difficulties. But I for one would have appreciated if the email was left off the board, a private reply was sent, and all group buy participants were notified via email (a week ago) as to why things were taking so long.

No, I didn't write the letter. Yes, I am still waiting for my stuff to arrive.

iSR Subaru? Tim, where does this statement come from? And what does it have to do with anything in this thread?

Cool

If you want to know the whole truth, email EddyRS, who started the whole thing and then was cut out by ISR and then they were cut out by Rallispec...what you sew, you shall reap That is what the last post had to do with this thread.

No one has the right to complain about the wait on a group buy (even the guy above, it was his choice to switch to the GB). By now everyone knows that they take forever. That is just one of the things you have to take into consideration when getting something at such a steep discount. If you want your product now, buy it retail, group buys are not for you.

I got mine on time and installed it right away... I'm rather happy!

I agree that the box needed more tape tho! Everything inside was fine however.

ISR Performance was asked by Eddy & Rob
to handle the group buy. In no way did or
would we take someone's group buy. When
Rallispec posted lower prices, Rob asked
us to turn the group buy over to Rallispec,
which was no problem.
Yes, group buys can take awhile.

For RalliSpec and the guy who bitched about the mounts not fitting. Please see:
http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/Forum1/HTML/013992.html

This will show that yes, you can get them to fit (and how). It just takes a little bit of work. Oh, yeah, this is the SPO bar, but still...the mounts are basically the same.

First: I am not mad. I have been very happy with my prior experiences with Rallispec and I realize that lowest prices = lowest service. (Walk into Wal-Mart and find qualified help if you doubt this axiom.) Therefore I initially did not expect the usual level of service with this massive group buy.

However, I would have appreciated earlier notification as you all (Rallispec) have my email address and phone number. I saw other members posting the classifieds about the shipment being incorrect / incomplete but was not contacted personally. Had I really cared I could have made contact myself, (or attempted to, based on the first line of this thread) but I was content to wait.

I believe it is reasonable to expect an update without asking for one if something changes the original terms of the transaction. I understand that you all were very, very busy but if you knew who was short what product, you could have spent the 1-2 minutes per customer to notify them. If that is not possible perhaps the lesson going forward is that you should not offer very large group buys.

Again, I am not mad. AND I know how to install the solid droplinks.

Rallispec, just wanted to thank you guys for my rear bar and endlinks that I recieved 2 days after my credit card was billed. Everything bolted/measured/installed near perfectly.
Just remember, you can't please all the people all the time. Keep up the awesome work.

Thanks again,

I thought it was agreed upon earlier that these guys earn their dough by wrenching all day, instead of answering emails and surfing the i-club all day. Did I miss something? If you want these guys to bend over backwards for customer service maybe you should pay first class prices. That way Rallispec can hire someone to hangout on the computer all day. On the other hand, if you want to continue to get "hooked up" then cut 'em some slack!

Keep up the good work Rallispec!

RALLISPEC,
You guys did a hell of a job on this group buy. There will always be a few unsatisfied customers. I recieved my bar on time and as far as that guy complaining you never let him know about the delay, if he would have picked up the phone and called you to see what was going on he would have been met with the same great service you guys have always provided. Sure he still would have to wait a bit but he would have known what was going on. Instead he just complains.
