holy crap I WAS JOKING JOEL!!!!!!

Helmets are not a requirement at shannonville mind you, but seat belts are. This is Ontario Canada, so nothing is regulated by "state law", there aren't even laws for these type of things.

Shannonville is not a high speed course, and as Schwabe said, you can ONLY pass on the straight, we are having marshalls and are blackflagging anyone acting like a boob. For this event, safety was a large concern for us. You may disagree with the no helmet bit, but seriously, this is not a race, or a competition, it's for drivers to get out on the track and better themselves, and maybe see how responsive some of there mods are.

Because of the fact that we will not be having helmets or emergency crews on the track (really, if you are going to have helmets, then you should have the emergency crews as well) this track day is going to be EXTREMELY controlled, and everyone going out is well aware of what we are doing.

Besides, the Fabi track at Shannonville is one of those tracks where you drive around the whole thing in 3rd gear. Not very fast at all. Shiv, disregard the coverage thing as I was ONLY JOKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello,

While I started off with saying that if your statement was true, then... I still find the idea that helmets not being required is just plain stupid. SCCA, NASA, and every official autocrosses I've ever heard of require helmets and their speeds are butt-slow. Plus autocrosses usually happen in big flat lots where there are no real terrain changes. And autocrosses are SOLO so you have only yourself to worry about. Yet, they're too dangerous to do without a helmet.

3rd gear? 75 mph tops? Heck, have you seen a car that rolls at 50 mph? That's the top of 2nd gear only. At the Buttonwillow event where a scooby flipped, the fastest people entered the "deadly" turn at 50-60 mph. The fastest people exited the turn from 35-45 mph. Yet, at those speeds, someone almost died after flipping his car.

Now you tell me, how safe can a situation be on the track, at 50-75 mph, with no helmet? I don't care if you have a million course workers. Someone sneezes while driving slightly above their limit at 75 through a straight section, and pitches the car into a flat spin that taps another car slowing for the coming corner and that tap sends that car into the dirt... BAM. Dead people.

Driving is not a laughing matter. We all enjoy it and have fun. The track is the safest place to explore the limits. But you can't forget that you're moving some 5 times faster than you could possibly sprint and now you have 20 times your naked mass! You're in a rolling bomb with no safety equipment.

I'm sorry if I sound like I went ballistic, but I wouldn't even want to be a spectator at such a crazy event. Even the Hybrid Honda crowd (you know, those kids we all make fun of) rents the track, gets an ambulance, and requires a safety inspection, seat belts, and helmets. No one says "no helmets."

Joel

Now get your helmets and learn how to drive - while minimizing the risk.

As far as helmets are concerned. I saw that Thunderhill has rentals for other events, would rental helmets be available for the Sube day? Hope so.

Hello,

Angus will have to verify... But at any rate, anyone coming who has an extra helmet should bring it if they're feeling friendly

Hello,

Wow, looks like we're filling up. Amazing. We'll have 30 scoobies and may have to open up for 40... And you might be missing it if you're not signed up.
