Yeah, a full sized fox thought he could outrun the RS, ha, no way. Actually, I was on my favorite twisties, hauling arse, and I can around a sharpe 90 degree turn, at about 55, and he/she was in the middle of the road, then he/she started running. Not left, not right, but straight ahead. At the last second he turned right. Which, its to late now, but that was a bad choice. Cause I went a thumpin over em. On may way home, after dropping a friend off from a party, I stopped. No Pirelli tread marks on em, so I guess I didnt leave that much of an impression. however, my car's rear end has a tint of red on it. So, moral of this post is, you dont have to worry about hitting fox's, the RS is quite capable in dealing with these sorts of suicide animals.

It's one thing to accidentally hit an animal on the road, but another to brag about it on a message board.
Am I the only one slightly offended by this? ![]() [This message has been edited by Impresario (edited June 25, 2000).] |

I'm not sure where to stand on this..
I've had my share of roadkill.. Ever kill an animal by accidentlly hitting them while on a motorcycle.. I have.. and the squirell VS Kawasaki is still one of my funniest stories.. though you did relay the event with a touch of humor... it's still not good.. so my reaction.. what's fitting.. ah yes.. **laughs while shaking head in disgusted manor** there.. that's fitting.. well..i don't know...i'm a Buddhist..it's totally against my religion to kill, or harm anything....
but....knowing everyone is different...I don't really want to be so opinionated about what i think is right and wrong......maybe coming on to brag about it is a little over the top..but who cares....that's not for me to judge.... yeah..appropriate response... *shaking head while laughing*.. come on guys....give him a break....i agree it's kinda stupid..but he was just joking kinda...if he sweved for it...shame on him..if it was an accident and he just made a joke out of it to feel better..that's fine....my mum does the same thing when an animal dies..she makes a joke out of it to make herself deal with it easier... |

I ran over a possum one morning riding my bicycle to work. It was dark, and I didn't have a headlight on the bike yet. It scared the crap out of both of us, but I stayed on the bike, and once he got up, continued on across the street. No foul, no harm.

I thought it was another race story not a roadkill story. Either way, nice kill.

AT least he did the correct thing. He did not swerve to avoid it. NEVER EVER do that...
I hit a Red fox last month the week after STPR. Up in the poconos...pouring down rain, straight road at night, down hill, the fox dashed out from the right...decided he did not want to cross the road...went back to the right, Nope... I'll go left, Nope... Right again, Nope... Left again, Nope... I'll just stop here. I tried to straddle him with the wheels as I got on the brakes hard in a straight line, hard enough to activate the ABS. Bu-Bump....at least I tried, and did not swerve into oncoming traffic or throw it into a ditch or a tree. You do what you can within reason. It is a way of life on those small mountain, back roads. |

Well I once thought it was impossible to run over a bird but one early morning I was proven wrong. IT was about 6:30-7:00 AM and the road was a nice gray in the early morning light. Well the pigeon was also grey and so having spent the night awake I didn't see it until I was about 10ft from it. So shortly there after I looked in the rear view mirror and there was a HUGE cloud of feathers. Say about 14 ft wide and 8ft tall. Even more humorus is this was RIGHT in frount of the state police station. They apparently had a officer go out and clean it up as not an hour later there was nothing left on the road.
I would have been pissed if it was one of the quail or a roadrunner that lives around there, but a pigeon all but deserves it. |

I hit a sea gull once, and it was actually really funny. Driving along a road in a small town at about 30mph, I see a few sea gulls in the street eating some discarded food. Well they were kind of off to the side of the road so I didn't slow down. When I was about 10ft from them they start to fly away. Well one of them takes of real low out into the road, to late for me to stop now. The bird first hits the top of my hood, slowly rolls over my windshield and down the back of the car. I never thought bird could show emotion, but you should have seen the look on this birds face as it rolled over my windshield. I stop, watch the thing shake itself off and fly away.

I posted this before: I killed a cat, a bat and a chicken one night on my way home to Manila waaay back when. All this happened when I was driving through paved road in the jungle about 75 miles south of Manila, Philippines.
The bat freaked me out more than anything.....imagine driving one early early dark morning and a bat gets caught in your wiper blades! Wings spread and all bloody! YIKES! The cat dashed in my way - I had no time to react. It was black, if any of you superstitious people were wondering. So technically, it never crossed my path. The chicken? well.....It looked like a small rock from a distance, small enough to drive safely over it until the rock poked its chicken head up to look at me - *pop*. That's only when I knew it was a chicken. It must have been sleeping. I was passing through a small village at that time. |

I hit a Rat in Central Park NYC around 10PM while doing laps on my bike. He stopped in the middle of the road and I tried to give him a wide berth (I am on a racing bicycle) he dashed under my rear tire. Since I weighed about 190 and that weight was concentrated into a 23mm 120PSI contact patch I don't think he made it. I felt a bump, a squish and a slight slide. (I didn't look back)
I also had a squirrel get his head caught in the spokes of my front wheel, but as the wheel rotated around he just got thrown out the back, rolled around a couple of times and ran off. I thought for sure I was going to get blood all over my legs when he spun around and hit the fork. To all you PETA folks. Keep your damn animals off the road. ![]() Tim |

subyprez20,
I know you were trying to make light of it, but I don't think this is a very funny story. A fox is a beautiful animal, and has a right to live peacefully same as you and me. Too bad you hit it; I'm glad you and your car are okay, but it's nothing to brag about, IMO. I think the moral of the story is: avoid 'em if you can do so safely; if not, you've taken a life. ![]() |

So far the only thing I've managed to hit is a bird (and technically he hit me since I never varied my speed and he darted back and forth in front of me), though I came REAL close to a hitting a herd of dahl sheep (like bighorn, only a little smaller; they were all white) in a blizzard near Idaho Srpings, Colorado.
Other than that I've been able to avoid just about everything else not from any violent menauvers, but by kppeing an eye out all around. Animals do stand out, especially at night (cat and raccoon eyes in particular), so keep an eye on more than the road and you won't have to worry about hurting your tires, ruining your print, or the sickness you feel when you unintentionally kill an ainmal. |

But truly in the end.. it comes down to one thing...
I get in a situation like that and it's just a choice of me or the animal.. I put almost as many miles on my bike as I do my car... and if I come across anything.. and I think I can get over it.. well that's what I am going to do.. too many people make overly evasive manuvers and lose it themselves.. it's all about self preservation in my eyes.. But yes.. I love animals.. worked at a petstore for 5+ years.. and I have a ton of pets.. |

I like when the animal wins..example. Algonquin Park (provincial park in Canada), some moron see's a big bull moose on the road. Instead of stopping his car, turning off the lights and just waiting for it to cross, he decided to throw the highbeams on, and start honking the horn. Well if anyone here knows what kind of attitude a bull moose has in the rut season, you know what happened next. Bull charges the car, old Honda Civic is I'm not mistaken, and kills the guy. The moose walked away. Now for all of you that don't believe a moose could crush a car to bits, think about this. Moose, weighing in at around 3200lb's, getting up to around 35mph. The poor guy didn't stand a chance....I'd have to give this one to the moose.
