Default 98 rs...auto tranny...usdm ej20

i've read through pretty much all the info (sticky and faq's) that was posted and it's great info btw..better then i've seen here in the past.

i have a quick question..the g/f's car 98 rs auto tranny is gonna need some tlc (cracked block or another head gasket)

we are thinking of doing the swap to a usdm ej20 and we are going to retain the automatic transmission....in my reading here i saw that it states that the bell housing's are the same with all tranny's and such...but it does not state anything about using an automatic. i know that the automatic's use a electronic awd system..what would be affected by swapping the motor and ecu with the usdm ej20..or should i attempt to find a motor/tranny combo instead.

thanks in advance btw.

the auto should work just fine. to answer one question, ive got a 98 DOHC EJ25 from a automatic 98 RS attached to a 94 JDM wrx 5 speed tranny.

so the issue would be the trans controll by the USDM WRX trans. hm. dunno, im assuming its got differnt shift points, but the gearing between the 4.44 final drive EJ25 trans and the 4.11 turbo EJ205 trans must be differnt. hmm hmm. dunno

mostlikely it would work okay. most subaruseems to be that way. no idea if the electronics between the NA auto and the turbo auto are differnt. mab ask around in the transmission forum
