Default OB Specific info on Fog Light/High Beam mod

I recently installed Hella 500's in the factory fog location and just spliced the power into the stock wiring. How can I modify my wiring to allow the fogs to be on independently of any other lights while still using the factory switch? I've found several articles on Scoobymods.com which explain how to do this in an Impreza, but I've taken apart my dash and the wiring seems to be different. Has anyone done this?

I've been trying to find this out for ages myself. Its almost like nobody has ever done it. Whenever i ask people point me to the instructions for the impreza. That doesnt help because they are wired a little different.

I ended up rewiring them so they're hardwired in. I couldn't come up with an answer either.

I've been planning this aslo, but not done yet. I think the Haynes manual diagram may actually be correct on this one, althought the wire colors may be wrong. If it is correct:

Power to the switch & relay coil come from the right headlight fuse. The switch then grounds thru the combo switch low beams. So it's triply connected to the low beams.

Even if the Haynes colors are right, the problems are finding which two of the three black/yellow wires go to the relay and the switch, and finding the relay itself.

The yellow/blue ground from the switch just needs to be cut & then grounded anywhere. The input to the switch & relay coil need to be cut & connected to the running lights. But first you gotta find the relay. It's deeply hidden in the footwell, behind other relays & remote door lock electrics. Bypassing it with a new relay may be easier. And probably mandatory if the new fogs are high-wattage.

I've given up finding the relay twice now. But the weather might be warm enough next weekend for another attempt.

Is it pretty easy to swap the Hellas in? Are they fogs or driving lamps? I'm pretty interested in upgrading those lights soon.

Saw the 9/23 & following writeups, but uses the stock wiring logic.

Yeah, I used the stock wiring logic (but relayed, for clean power).
I was referring to the physical mounting directions for rammer.

Now that I think about it, though, I'm not sure 500's will fit int he BH cars......

i also have a pair of IPF fog lights in the middle, they are on the same switch... it's a 3-way toggle switch i bought from subaru, it looks factory!!
