Now ask the question about how many "Cross Country" and "Type R/AWD" Volvos have been in the shop for repairs to the first-generation AWD system that Volvo developed... I think I'll stick with my Legacy and 25+ years of AWD experience. And for the price of one of those Volvos I could put $30k worth of mods (twin-turbo, TEC-II, full suspension, transmission, etc) on my Wagon and beat any stock Volvo....
sorry... not today, thanks. A edit: duh, I forgot to mention... One of these passed me on Hwy26 in Portland this weekend at about 100mph... They look nice, but I'd take a Legacy sedan over the S80R any day (for looks)... [This message has been edited by RandyF (edited October 02, 2000).] |

I'd still rather build up a 240-series Volvo.
Maybe a 93 244 GL stripped down and swap in a B23 turbo motor out of a later 740-series. Install a Getrag tranny out of a Supra or BMW and then crank up the boost. BTW, I just found out why my Impreza feels slower then my old Volvo (85 244 Turbo, intercooled) - because they havre the HP, but the Volvo had 190ft.lb's of torque (out of a 2.1L engine too). |

I bought the Consumer Reports used car buyer's guide, and they recommend staying away from AWD Volvos - Large, frequent repair charges. I'd wait, or go w/ the SAAB Viggen

A) This is a concept car. Who knows if it'll hit production -- it's on volvospy, and the link was posted in a different thread a few days ago.
B) The Saab Viggen is FWD and is subject to some horrible torque steer. I've yet to see a positive review of that car. Greg. |
