Talking Funniest thing anyone ever called my car

I was talkin with one of my friends just the other day and somehow we got on the subject of my car. He said "Is that the Pokemon car?" I started laughing. Now all my friends call it the Pokemon car.
I choose you Subaru!
Suby, do your drifting spin attack.
Haha, I guess its not that funny if you've never seen the show.

Also this one girl at my school calls it a SuBARu (BAR as in a bar that you go to for a drink), I didn't bother correcting her because its just not worth it. I don't like the respect our Soobs get. I go to Circuit City looking for a pocket for below my new deck and I say its a Subaru Impreza, they go, a what? At Fry's Electronics, same thing. A Subaru who? Only some people know what it is. One guy asked if I had a 2.5GT. And for some reason all the girls thought I had put on a body kit right when I got it. Now I don't want to really put a lip on it, because if someone says damn thats cool looking, is it a kit? I'll have to explain to them what is aftermarket and what isn't, or I guess I could just say its all stock. One girl thought the fogs were afterrmarket. I mean I like not being known as well as a Civic and will get a couple head turned, but I would like to talk to someone about Subaru and them not going who? a what? But thats ok, time to go out and have some fun driving my SuBARu.

Most people I talk to that don't know what it is don't even guess. They just say "Another Japanese POS" or "Yeah, it's just a Jap car", something like that. A male coworker keeps referring to Bryan's "Isuzu". He's an idiot. One day we were talking about an Integra Type R that I had just seen at the dealership and he says, "Those Subaru Integra things aren't that fast". My god.

When I told that same guy about it being AWD when I got it, he said, "That thing will never go offroad. Look at that crappy ground clearance compared to my jeep". When I told him it wasn't supposed to go offroad, he was like, "Duh, it's just a car. What a waste of money to get a 4-wheel-drive CAR that will never go offroad". Of course this is the same guy who's had his Jeep for over two years and refused mudding contests against my old Explorer and even against the Subaru. An ounce of dust gets on his Jeep and he starts freeking out. I asked him the other day why he wasted money on a 4WD vehicle that was designed to go offroad when he won't even take it out of the suburbs, and he responded with "Well it'll beat your little Japanese POS any day!" Ok then.

I'd like to meet your 'Subaru-for-lunch- eating' Jeep friend on the highway someday. Maybe when a turn comes up, he'll finally get to use his jeep offroad. No offense!

Oh...and people don't know what the hell my car is for the most part. I don't blame them. Hehe!

LOL!
very funny Kevin. sadly, you are probably right...most people get their SUV's offroad on a good highway bend when they try to take it at 80 with the rest of the cars.

To give his Wrangler some credit, we did race one time from a light and he stuck with me up to about 45 (great torque in those things) but it's basically a box on wheels. Any wind resistance at all nullifies that 185hp. I'm surprised it goes as fast as it does though. He had it up to 95 one day (says it'll go over 100) before we got to the end of the bridge by work. Of course, the very next day with 3 passengers in my car (including him), I did 110 before we even got half-way over the bridge. I'm sure it could have done 120 if I tried (65 zone, bridge is about 1 mile long). And, of course, then he starts talking about how his sisters GSX does it a lot faster. Wow, for only $5000 more, I'd hope so.

I think I'm one for talking about off-roading in the Impreza. It actually does very well, though it does high-center easily. I think around my area, 99.8% of all SUV's and trucks have never seen off-road other then road construction in their lives. Damn yuppies.

The oddest thing I've heard was a Dodge Shadow. Oh and I have totally convinced at least one domestic owner that Subaru is made in Australia.

Anyone who does not understand the importance of AWD on a car is really not worth wasting breath on any further. They just wont get it.

Taht doesn't take much convincing here. Probably half of the people I talk to about my car have told me that the Subaru is an Australian car. I try to explain to them that it's made in Japan and the Australian thing is just a marketing thing, but they don't believe me.

Yea, speaking of people not getting AWD, another "friend" rode with me for the first time the other day. For the first five minutes, he kept looking all over the dash and under it, in the glove compartment, even in the center console. I asked him what he was looking for and he said, "Where's the button to shift to 4-wheel-drive?" I told him that it's always on and you don't turn it on and off and he said, "So it's not 4WD then, it's just fake?" I didn't go further into it with him, but I think he got the idea that it's something like traction control.

The other day, I was getting into my car at K-mart and some teenagers drove by in a Yukon/Tahoe and they were all laughing and pointing at me and my car. I just stood there and stared at them in total confusion. What's up with that?

There's one guy that I see driving home sometimes that has a new Contour SVT. A couple of times I've tried to race him from a light just for fun (not speeding), but he always just rolls his eyes at me and shakes his head. One day, I caught him with his window down and asked him if he wanted to run just up to the speed limit and he said, "Son this is a Contour SVT, do you know what that is?" I couldn't help but just sit there and look at him with my mouth open in amazement. Sorry, I wasn't quick enough to come back with anything intelligent. I was in shock. I should have told him that the SVT was 2nd on my list of cars when I bought mine but I opted against it basically because of the lack of power (low-end) and the handling was not up to par with the RS. Plus it's only FWD and it costs more for the same luxuries. That wasn't a hard choice in the end.

On a side note, I actually saw the first Lambo Countach I've seen in YEARS yesterday. Yes, I know they're everywhere in certain parts of the country, but this is FWD land, and real sports cars are unheard-of. Very impressive.

ROTFLMAS! Man some ppl are just idots when it comes to an impreza expecally the guy with the SVT. I told my brother-in-law that I wanted a Subaru (or should I say SuBARu) and he told me, "Isnt that an Autralian car" I looked at him with a stare. But know he understands "some" of the capabilities the Impreza can do after I had to explan it to him.

I told someone that I had a Japaneese car and he said "hey, I thought you had a Subaru". I also had a friend tell me he'd never buy a "four banger" and he drives a 2.5 liter V6 cougar with 170 hp. I get better milage, go faster 0-60 (if I really drop it), have all wheel drive, a better driving position and nobody's ever called my car "cute". Lastly, another guy told be he'd never buy anything but a domestic truck. He drives a Dodge diesel. I wonder if I should tell him it's German?
