I think that's the best deal so far. Is there a minimum for the GB?

subaruwrx: don't cancel your deposit _anywhere_ until after your purchase is finalized... especially if it's refundable! That way, you can be a competitive shopper when it comes time to haggle prices if necessary...

Also, you never know if the dealer's going to get the car immediately or 6 months down the road...

Philip, great work and thank you for contacting SC Subaru. I'm a bit confused though -- why couldn't he agree to some amount below MSRP as with the Diablo deal? Being that we know what MSRP is, and we don't know what invoice is, do you think it would be safer to go with a delta off MSRP?

Anyway, thanks again!

Let me try to answer all the questions at once......

subaruwrx: I would recommend (as someone already has) to keep your deposit there and start it at the santa cruz (that is if you are able to). Once invoice price is released, I bet the dealers will think differently about selling for MSRP.

vladgur: the contact info was added to my original post. Deposite is $500, fully refunable.

christoph1371: I have no 100% idea on how much the total will be, but the deposit is $500. On color choices, you would have to speak directly to the dealer to see what he has to say about it.

bobski: I have been talking to him about the Diablo deal, so I am assuming he is making this deal with the same "requirements", so I would say 5 minimum.

Necromancer: I really don't know why any dealer would throw deals out at all right now, since their is no invoice value. But the best way on the dealer's part is to go by how much more than invoice, that way they would know how much "profit" to expect. I don't see this as a bad thing. But I do find stating the amount below MSRP risky for the dealer, since they don't know how much invoice is, they could end up dropping the price below invoice before, and because of this risk, it sounds very iffy to me.

Going off MSRP could end up being better for us, if the invoice ended up being more than we expect. Personally thou, hearing some dealer quote a price based off MSRP doesn't give me much faith on that dealer. I am actually glad the Santa Cruz dealer choice to state it how he did.

Anymore questions?

I still haven't seen anyone give prices on the options, and the dealer is stating they don't have them yet either. But you are able to give the list of options you want, and they should keep it handy in your "record".

The contact is Sandy Charnay (831) 420-1500

Well said Philip; in any case I'm confident we are not going to get screwed. I'm sure Santa Cruz Subaru has seen their numbers go up due to our evangelism and they are not about to jeopardize their street cred.

Sandy told me to just give em a credit card number, so that's what I did. FAX'd the stuff over to him a minute ago and am waiting for confirmation.

Nice job folks, I hope we do eventually get our cars from Santa Cruz. Imagine that first drive up highway 17!! (okay, maybe it won't be all that great because of break-in, hehe)

I just faxed information over to them also.

FYI, Sandy indicated that they are now requiring a deposit of $1000 for this deal.

Exclamation Here we go with the offer..... (WRX Group Buy)

I spoke to Sandy at Santa Cruz, he first stated $1000 above invoice, but I mentioned that this might end up being the same deal (since its almost the majority that believe it will be 22k for invoice). SO, he brought it down to $750 over invoice.

IF (and thats a BIG IF) the invoice is 22k, that would bring it to a total around $22,750.

Now that would be a $1,250 savings over MSRP.

So what do you all think?
Philip

Ok so I tried to mention it in the other post but I got almost NO response.

We are all poking our contacts and seeing what we can find. I have NO clue what I can get from Roseville, but:
1) I have family there, hopefully willing to deal, if anyone can he can I'll bet my Track Day ticket on that (not that his will be better, only that he can deal...).
2) I know they aren't the best dealership around (one of the worst at times) but you can have your servicing done elsewhere, I thought we were just looking for the best deal outright...
3) Anyone willing to drive to Sac let me know, when I reach 5 confirmed I'll make an offer and se if they can beat Santa Cruz... If I can reach more than that I'll throw it to him and see if I can reach less than the current best of $750 over invoice.

HKBeef,

I talked to Sandy Charnay over at Santa Cruz earlier today and asked him various questions about the cars he'll be getting. The most revealing bit of info he told me was that he's expecting about 9 cars. As for colors and options and all that, we'll just have to wait since he doesn't have much info yet. If I recall, he also said he'll have more info by next week. So you might want to check back with him. He sounds like a real nice guy, took time to answer my questions, tho he did seem to want to get off the phone. Maybe it was a long day?

Anyways, do u guys want to pick up ur cars at the same time? We can have an entourage leaving the dealership.

Question

Okay, I'm planning to call Sandy tomorrow and talk about a deal, but how will this work? If I like everything he says and decide to buy there, and give him a down payment, is the deal (i + $750) contingent on at least 4 others doing the same? And if that doesn't happen, does my deal go south? Should a group of us coordinate efforts to send money all at once?

Aargh, I'm getting confused! Life was so much simpler when there was only MSRP.

Thumbs up

Well since theyre only getting 9 cars not everyone will be getting theirs soon. On other hand if any of you get $750 over invoice offer in writing from them, please scan it and post it here so we'd be able to try and match it elsewhere

I am DEFINATELY down with this deal. There is a HUGE problem for me though. There is no way I can have the money yet. I want to do a FAT down payment, and right now I have nothing. (had to pay off credit card bills, & trip to Hong Kong/China 2 weeks ago killed me financially) There is no way I can get a WRX before July/August/September.. Around then.. Can a group Buy stretch out this long?

Check with Necromancer regarding a scanned copy of a signed offer. I'd put a link to it here, but I didn't want to do it without his permission. Basically, you fax over your order to Sandy which also includes a statement saying that Santa Cruz Subaru will sell it to you at $750 over invoice. Ask him to sign it and fax back. That's what Sandy is telling everyone to do.

I just got back my fax from Sandy too. 750 over invoice, 1000 refundable deposit on credit card. I just talked to him and he says he now has 11 orders. The only thing that was kinda funny was the signature on the fax..looked more like a quick scribble than a signature.
This is the best deal I can find so far....I'm coming up from LA to get it!
