It's gonna be a long 7 weeks...
So I take off Thursday, solo trip, to NJ to meet my dad to head to Boston and Providence. Make it to Washington great...car runs well, polished to a shine, system still sounds like crap but that should change. Take a wrong turn in DC. I hate DC. The traffic is horrible every time you go through. Go onto the Capital Beltway. I'm going SLOOOW...maybe 60 at most. Right most lane. Look to switch lanes and a truck pulls over. Everyong in front of me stops and I see them...swerve the Sube but I still caught the edge of a minivan. After much swearing (I mean a lot...) and a ton of apologizing the lady went on her way. Her car was fine, but I smashed my headlight and the bumper (already chipped and such from rocks, gravel, etc.) was smashed. She walked away with maybe $100 worth of damage. My uncle got by, tried to pull out some of the bumper. Car ran fine, no touching, but we wanted to be sure. Got it out a little. By now I was so upset...this is gonna cost, I can't report my damage to insurance, etc. etc. I can't believe I hit her...and I can't believe I damaged my car again. My driving sucks...I'm still upset about it. Meet my dad and I thought he was gonna kill me. Turns out he's okay with it, especially with the fact that the damage is so light. It was nice not to be chewed out...my parents are good to me and I try to treat them well but I was anticipating a war. So eventually I make it thru Boston, toured a few campuses with my smashed car, and to Brown University. I check in and offhandedly ask the dean where I'm going to park. Like most deans, she's hardened, determined, stoic, etc. But for one second, I think I scared the he** out of her. She was terrified. And she said I couldn't use it, needed to park off-campus, etc. My dad ended up having to drive the car back to satisfy her. He was going to take a flight but he had to cancel it. Needless to say he was not happy. I wasn't happy either, but as many problems I had I didn't even consider it. Two days into the program...I'm going through withdrawls. My dad says he'll get the car fixed when I'm gone and I can handle payments when I get back. I hope all you dads can be as understanding when your kid does something really stupid like this. But I'm still Subeless and still stuck here. I'll check in on the boards, specifically the GB, every so often but other than that, I'll be busy. Hope everyone enjoys their summer...and I hope no one does anything stupid like me. Have a good one.

do you have uninsured motorist coverage in your state? it is judged as a not at fault axx and your insurance deduct is cheaper.
you must fill out a police report as well. of course you would have to lie about the axx and say that someone hit your subie in a parking lot on campus or something. just some devious alternatives. |

Thanks guys.
Yeah, my damage wasn't so bad. I have the body parts book (about a year out of date, but they don't change too much) and it looks to me like it's gonna cost about $500 in parts and another $200 in labor. Harsh. I may take some of you up on that offer. I'll be careful with it, but sitting in that comfortable seat with the hood scoop sitting in front of the car...now that's therapy. ![]() |
