See what I get for assuming....
![]() I assumed that you were going to do the 'H6' swap on your WRX... dba makes any rotor for any Subaru you may have. See: http://www.dba.com.au/ |

on that site they only have rotors for the overseas version of the legacy turbo '90-93 which had solid rear rotors and thus will not fit USDM legacy turbo calipers.
I know www.brakewarehouse.com has autospecialty cross-drilled vented rotors for the rear legacy turbo calipers. Does anyone else make them? -Mike |

That dba site lists fitments for any Subaru you may have, just look. See: http://www.dba.com.au/catalogue/DBA%20Catalogue.htm
Borrowed from scoobymods: http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/sho...p?threadid=762 ROTORS There were/are three rear rotors that have been installed on USDM Subarus since 1990 1. 266x10mm(170mm) solid rear rotor. Most widely used rear rotor. Found on numerous Subaru models from BC Legacys to current WRXs. This rotor is found equipped with a single pot caliper of either the “newer” or “older” style. 2. 266x18mm(170mm) vented rear rotors found on 1990-94 Legacy Turbos. This rotor is found equipped with a wide single pot caliper of the “older” style. The bolt spacing on the caliper seems to be unique to it. 3. 290x10mm(170mm) solid rear rotor. Found on all 2000+ Legacys equipped with rear discs. This rotor is found equipped with a single pot caliper of the “newer” style. Other rear rotors used on JDM and abroad Subarus since 1990 1. 290x18mm(170mm) vented rear rotor. Found on 2000+ B4s and GT-Bs, et. al. This is also the vented rotor used with the Sti 2pot caliperon on 170mm hand brake equipped vehiicles. 2. 290x18mm(190mm) vented rear rotor. Found on at least 2001+ WRX-Sti(and maybe as far back as 98.) This rotor came equipped with the 2pot Sti rear caliper and the R180 rear assembly. 3. 316x20mm(190mm) vented rear rotor. Found on 2001+ WRX-Sti Limited, some type RAs, Prodrive, S202, etc. This is the F50 Brembo rear rotor and came equipped with the Brembo 2pot rear caliper and the R180 rear assembly. So the dba 649 would be a 266x18mm.....and... the 653 would be a 290x18mm...... Both for the R160 rearend. |

I don't know what an R160 rear end is...I'm guessing that's the rear lsd/pumpkin/axles etc. Are you saying these 2 rotors will work on my car?('02 USDM WRX Sedan with USDM Legacy Turbo rear calipers). If they both work I guess I'll get the 653's. thanks again for the help, -Mike Last edited by SleeperWRX; 12-13-2003 at 03:29 PM. |

it looks to me from the scoobymods link you gave me that the 653's require different calipers than regular legacy turbo ones:
"3. JDM B4/GT-B Upgrade. Gains: Moving to larger diameter and vented rotor (290x18mm) yielding the cumulative of the gains above. You will need to replace the calipers/caliper brackets/pads(from a 2000+ JDM or abroad B4 or GT-B,) and rotors." Can I use them with regular USDM legacy turbo calipers? Is there some bracket I can get to make it work...kinda like people use outback brackets to put the 290mm outback rotors on their wrx's? |

The 290's from the OBS are the 10mm solid ones...not vented.

turbo legacy vented rotors are the exact same diameter as wrx rear rotors.
You'd be better off going with the H6 style rear upgrade IMO. I upgraded to the turbo legacy rear brakes on my legacy. This was before the H6 upgrade was so popular. If I had to do all over again I would do the H6 upgrade instead. |

ok both of you misinterpreted what I'm saying so I'll try to explain it more simply.
-wrx and legacy turbo calipers are very similar. They are both made to work with 266mm rotors. They both mount the same way...the legacy turbo ones are just a little wider to accomodate wider rotors. -people are putting the outback adaptor on the wrx calipers and running 290mm rotors of the same width as stock (10mm) -I want to run legacy turbo calipers with the outback adaptor so I can run 290mm rotors of the same width as stock for legacy turbo calipers(18mm). Nobody has mentioned this as being possible, but it makes sense to me. Is there something I don't know that would make this setup impossible? thanks, -Mike |

Using the 290x10mm solid rotors, as discussed above, with stock rear calipers and longer caliper attach brackets to clear the larger rotor(290mm vs. 266mm) on a WRX is CHEAP and EASY. This is the 'H6' mod, and is very popular.
Any other combination is NOT easy. Going to vented rear rotors requires expensive parts and having the backing plates pressed off the rear knuckles and different backing plates pressed on to attach the rear calipers, and some conversions require the parking brake assemblies to be swapped out as well. legacy777 has it right when he says: "You'd be better off going with the H6 style rear upgrade IMO. I upgraded to the turbo legacy rear brakes on my legacy. This was before the H6 upgrade was so popular. If I had to do all over again I would do the H6 upgrade instead." |

Mike,
For clarification. A more proper term for the t-legacy rotors rather then wider would be vented. Yes they are wider, but they are vented. For vented rotors in the rear, you have only two options. The turbo legacy vented rears, which do nothing in terms of changing brake balance/force/etc. Also they do is increase heat capacity of the rear brake system. Unless you're racing, there's really not much to gain from upgrading to them. There are 290mm vented rear rotors from overseas, but like mentioned, it's pretty expensive. |
