I've heard rumors that it'll be lower than the current RS.
Hope that's true, because if the gas price doesn't fall, I might consider the RS instead/

Hey with all the other models except the WRX using the eg25, at least we know the aftermarket wont dry up anytime soon.

They mention it in the press release on the WRX site. Unfortunately they didn't bump up the power on the 2.5, which makes me think the new RS may accelerate a touch slower than the current one. The new one will weigh more.

Given the $24,000 price of a WRX, the theory that the RS could drop slightly in price holds some water. They will want to price them far enough apart that sales of one does not cannibalize the other.

Good questions, but I think we're already making some assumptions. Namely, is the 2.5 RS going to be the new or old body style? Does anybody know _for a fact_, or is everybody assuming it's the new style? If they do what BMW does with staggering the introduction of their new models, it'll most likely be the old style. Also, if it's the old style, we they be offering any additional options?

Question

What's the bloody point? The 2.5 becomes the base engine, so you can have it without all the tack-on scoops and doodads that were mostly for show anyway. Then you've got a great platform to mod to your heart's content.

lucien2 -- My first thought was that you got it exactly right. But then again, why not spend a little more and get the engine allready modified with a turbocharger. Probably for less money than you could do it yourself.

One of the great things about the current RS is that it has attitude. Granted, the stock car is a bit of a pretender with the fake scoop and vents. But who cares?

The new RS will look like the plain Jane stepsister to the WRX. Ain't nobody gonna ask her to the prom.

YES they will be the new models... Duh...
new-impreza.com had a pic of one.

Stop the blabering and find out some REAL info about the new base models people!

But, compair the new RS with the current RS... No sunroof, no spoiler, no hoodscoops, no "special cloth" inside, probably not power windows/doors, etc. (its the base model small car for subie now), and a couple other items less...

Im thinking around 17k... 16,5 for the TS Wagon.

I don't think the RS will be a base model. Although the 2.5 engine is going to be the base engine. Remember there's a TS model after it. Although the new RS probably will move to a lower place than the current RS, I think there is still a market for it. There are still some people who want some level of performance AWD car but can't afford the the turbo and the gas. RS would be great for them. After all, where else can you find another AWD car at about $20K? (Not including mini suvs)

Sorry guy, but it IS being called an RS... (Go to the darn web site and read it 100% through!) albiet toned down (yet heavier) from the current RS.

Those "pre-drafts" of the Lineup, along with color schemes, have also proven correct.

I personally think the Current Model RS looks better, and with adding the difference in price for the new one, we can get a minnams kit, and we'd eat you guys up for breakfast. But anywho, the only thing I heard that was an improvement was that there's less body bend, and I read a review saying the WRX seems really mediocre. that's just my opinion on it.

i have to agree with die civic on this one. im already preparing for 290 horsepower and will still be paying an average of 10k less(depending on mark ups for the my02) for those horses. i personally say f@#$ that car, the p1 is something worth aspiring to. and mind you, displacment is the key element in horsepower. too many fairweathers here. 6 months ago everyone wanted an rs, now people are getting second mortgages so they can get this subidodge looking thing......

I too have just bought a '01 Impreza RS sedan. This body style, chasis, structure, and blah blah have won so many rallies. The drivers have experiences with the feel of the car...now they have a totally different chasis and feel, I guess Subaru is gonna lose with the new body in WRC...but hopefully, not.

What I like about the new WRX is the dashboard layout of the guages. The rest are just taken out of our current Impreza's parts bins. Wouldn't it be nice that we get the 22B or Prodrive Impreza here instead of the new WRX? :P

Critics til the end!
They havent even sat in it or driven it, yet are willing to say its a POS... Geez...

Theres nothing on the American market that can directly compete with it Performance/Cost+Practability wise PERIOD (The Type-R succombs to a higher cost + lack of AWD, nor can you get it in a wagon... A4/3-series are a heck of alot poorer performers number wise, yet cost major $$$ more)

And dont even try to say you dont like the way it looks til you see it in person...
Heck, I didnt like the RS til I saw it in person!

T-WRX: totally agree. I was posting in response to the original subject of the post, not arguing against the turbo.

Aaah, youth is wasted on the young. The RS is a great car, people, why the sour grapes? Are y'all going to pick sides, go to the corners, and come out swinging? Instead of worrying about who can smoke whose butt at a stop light, why not ask yourself if your car brings a smile to your face every day? Huh? Right? Yea, there, that's better! The WRX is gonna be great, I hope I can get one (prolly not), but hell, I drive an Outback, fer chrissakes, you don't see me sticking my chin out every time the youngsters around here call it names.....

Point is, Soobs are great engineering, they set you apart from the pack no matter which one you chose, and y'all should be proud of that. Now, where's my penny roll sleeves.....

I agree with lucien2,

I think the 2.5 will be the base engine. Subie needs a strong engine in that segment to compete. The current base is a slug.

Im going to build my "slow" 99 RS to whup you and your "ugly as sin" WRX! Just because its new doesnt make it better, the saying "they dont make'em like they used to" didn't just happen one day, it came about for a reason.I would and might still buy a WRX wagon, but Im NOT selling my RS, no way in he!!.

Dag, I think everyone needs to stop bickering back and forth over RS vs new WRX...we are all subaru lovers here right?..both cars absolutly kick ass...more than all the civics you see every day put together...I dont know about you all..but as for me I have repsect for my fellow subaru drivers...and while I would race a "ryced" civic revin his engine at me in a heartbeat..I wouldnt race another RS or WRX for that matter...I just feel we are on the same team here ya know?..I love my RS..and wny of you who have one should love yours too, despite the WRX coming out...as for me I like the WRX as well..and I sure as heck know whenmy RS has seen its time about 6 years down the road..I will be trading her in on a WRX...but until then I wont let the WRX overshadow my RS that I love...anyways everyone..my 2cents/ramblings =) have a good day!
