Default Baja Turbo seats ? & rearward visibility?

I checked one of these out tonight - no time for a test drive but later this week. The seats are ok, I was hoping for WRX or even the same seats as the Forester Turbo. The Baja-T seats need more thigh bolsters and a tad more on the side and heaters.

I thought the interior quality was fine. (most recent cars have been S4 Avant and Volvo V70R, which have nice interiors). It could really use 17" rims and a more aggressive stance but that's not the target audience. Rear seat headroom was tight, I'm 6'2 but ok.

A concern I noticed may be reward visibility over the right shoulder. Those who own, how is it? It was somewhat dark on the lot.

They had a mystic blue monocolored NA which probably looks very good in the sunlight. This Turbo was black/graphite and the automatic turbo was Regatta Red/silver stone.

Does anyone know if WRX or Forester seat tracks are the same? On our '02 Forester I was told the WRX seats would not fit. Are aftermarket seats available for the Baja, I know I'll want to change them since I'll be driving this 75 miles a day.

This particular dealer had more than 5 STIs on the lot, to my suprise. They also have plenty of FXTs. Hopefully there will be some decent year end deals.

Subaru emailed me a $500 coupon if I test drive and buy before January 2nd.

There are a few $25k cars to choose from, although others are not as functional. Hopefully the test drive will really push me in the right direction.

Blind spot wasn't as bad as I thought. It's almost the same as my 98 Impreza, which isn't that bad.

Visibility is fine for me.

you'd probably have to wait till next fall for big rebates on the sti's due to the fact that '04's have been out since pre-june. subaru is pretty good for their design years, my dad's nissan dealership has a wack of 2003 altimas but they've been sending '04's with new colors and a big rebate package adn then in may they're launching a redesigned '05 altima

It is dark to me, but its just a matter of getting used to it. I once drove a mustang that was dark as can be. That was easy after awhile.

My wagon has headrests alot higher than my previous OBS. I hated loosing some rear sight, but I have gotten used to that also. Its just a matter of 'learning' where your car is.

Do you see where I'm coming from?

after the test drive the rearward visibility was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. A very nice test drive it was.

02_Forester, then you drove 5 speed? In cloth seat? Can you tell the diff between cloth and leather? My test ride had 5MT but leather (show car), so I thought it was pretty good. But haven't been in cloth seat yet. Oh well it's too late now (and I won't buy AT anyway) that I already got one coming. Can't wait to switch from nice tame (that's an understatement) OBS to "turbo legacy (with a small bed)" car.

It's none of my business, but doesn't your significant others (wife, children, etc) get tired of hearing/dealing with test rides and purchasing experience? My wife taught my 3 year old kids (twins) to say "don't play with haha and play with me" when I came back from a couple of hours negotiating. Ouch!

I just checked one out a couple days ago. Took a while to find it since it was in the back in a corner. The seats are great I think, very comfortable and I like the new materials, the vinyl isn't the cheap crap like trucks of old.

The new colors are great too. The one at the dealer had the new Monterey Silver color. It was beautiful even though it isn't monotone. And the anthracite wheels look really good too.

If they don't sell all 2000 of these by the end of 2004, I might just have to get myself a Turbo. Between a new Legacy wagon and this...choices, choices.

hatake, my wife can't stand it.

I would like to try out the leather seats as a comparison. I'd really like to get heated seats and a manual trans. which mean I may need to get leather. They have an automatic Baja-T with leather.

I test drove the Forester Turbo tonight and those seats are just right. If they were in the Baja I think I would lean towards it. The Forester Turbo has a bit more room and it is silly fast for a big box.

I think I've narrowed it down to the Baja-T or the FXT. I wish I could get a sunroof with the 5spd in the Forester. One option might be to replace the Baja seats and add heated seats out of a wrecked '04 FXT or WRX at some point. The truck bed, while small, would really come in handy next spring. I keep going back and forth

After driving it for a couple of days, I like the seats better than my old Impreza. It's very comfotable, and supports much better than Impreza's seat. The first word out of the wife's mouth was "you didn't tell me you were getting a leather!" Well, it's not as soft as leather, but the black bolster does look very nice and rich in the feel. Kids love the back seat, too - for now. The leg room in the back is comparable to Impreza - so kids kick me in my seat with their shoes. I need a pair of protector. I just wish it were a hight adjustable as my long torso kind of requires lower seat with moon roof. My head isn't touching, but static surely lift my hair up and I can feel it. So if you are tall, or having a long torso like I do, then try 4AT with leather package to see if you can lower the seat.

As to little bed on the back, my mt bike fits in it without lowering the gate (in diagnol I still need to lock it up, but I'm very happy I can load my car in my tight garage without having the garage door open, or having to go outside. Not sure if this works but here is the picture of my bike in the bed:

Living in Denver, my weekend playground is always above 6 ~ 8,000 feet above the sea level for biking, hiking, and skiing. Up the twisty mountain road was a pain in the neck with my Impreza, but this thing moves! It actually accelerates in 5th gear going up 10 mile uphill on I-70 from Denver! I'm so happy. I'm having a hard time keeping it to rev under 4k - it revs like nothing, where my Impreza used to chug, tach meter going up ever so slightly.

I've DIYed my IC screen right a way after finding the core fins bend even with a touch of my finger (not "push" just touch). With Baja Turbo, this is very easy as Subaru already put in a large punched metal mesh (won't prevent rocks from going in there since the holes are so large), and I can lay the alminum screen window material (5 bucks at home depot) underneath, and fasten the rubber duct (this duct is very nice, like a cool action duct) and it is very secure. Now I'm actaully DIY'ing the radiator screen with regular window screen kits to bolt on to the frame, behind the grill and bumper. should be (almost) invisible when it is installed.

This is my best Chrismas gift I ever got! Thanks, santa!

Glad to hear you like it!!

I was given a quote of $22,898 for a 5spd Baja Turbo. Unfortunately, I have decided on another car, a Mini Cooper S. I know I'm going to miss the acceleration, AWD and functionality but I couldn't pass up the fun that the little Cooper has to offer. Its a 3rd car for us and both our other cars have AWD. Eventhough I picked up the Cooper I keep thinking about the Baja-T and the FXT, those were both a blast to drive!!!

Good for you, 02_Forester! I wish I could get a 3rd car...

Does anyone know how I can use Imagestation.com for the picture host for this board? Or is it not possible?
