USDM EJ20 and VSS

Has anybody actually gotten a USDM EJ20 swap to run using the mechancial gauge cluster and mechanical VSS? I'm debating whether or not I want to add more complexity to my swap and mandate 'glass work to get my USDM cluster to work in my car.

The theory is that the mechanical VSS spins the mechanical gauge cluster. In turn, the mechanical gauge cluster produces an electronic VSS signal that is passed to the ECU. The running theory is that this electronic VSS signal will be perfect for the USDM ecu as the pulsewidths are the same between the electronic VSS and the mecanically generated VSS. In theory it works. In theory.
