Default OT: Worth it to restore MkII Supra?

Hi guys, I just want the opnions of guys here who have experience/d in body repair or restoration, or have something done like that to their car. How much (guesstimate) do you think to get this car repaired bodywise, and get it repainted a different color? $2000? more? less?

How many km's on her? She must be real special to you if you want her all repaired and done up right.

contact tommy at http://akautoworks.com, tell him that the guy who's wrx wagon got stuck on his driveway sent u

and show him as many pics as u can and hopefully he can give u a hand

but i can tell u just a standard complete respray is at least $2-3k. color changes are more because of door jambs, etc. with all that body damage i see (i'm afraid to ask what the hatch looks like... MKII's are notorious for rotting hatches ), i would be guessing somewhere close to $4-5k...

i hate to see a MKII get scrapped but.... what's the story behind this thing?

Winnipeg car... Engine is very low mileage, interior is mint. It's just the body that's crap.

I haven't seen the car personally, I would like to look into the strut towers, the frame, seatbealt mount, seat mounts, floorboards to see the extent of the rust.

hmmmm the whole lower body panels look really rottin, the question is are you going to "restore" it or are going to fix it up ,mod it and street it, if you are going to restore it ,I doubt it would be worth it, but with that kind of body damage I would cut all the soft (rottin) steel off the bottom and make a custom wide body. but in reality unless this guy just gives it to you ,I would look for one from around here (manitoba is just harsh on steel bodys) and save a LOT of cash on the body work

trust me been there ,done that .... 4WF

youthanasia, it's gonna be a lot of work. Dreams vs. Reality, really. I have a '81 Bronco fullsize and when I first got her I had big plans. As my excitement went down saw the reality(money and time), dreams were pretty much out of reach. The number one thing you wanna look for when it comes to old vehicles is sub-frame rust and body rust, and that Supra seems to have both. Some parts have gone right thru. Look at it this way, engines and other powertrain comp. can be rebuilt and/or purchased, the time and money you'll invest into body and frame work, however, is... there's no way of telling, really. Quite indefinite.

i'm looking at the pics more closely now (not at work anymore) ... actually i can see the rust on the suspension parts and wheelwells peeking out from behind the wheels... the garbage back plugging the hole in the trunk floor isn't promising either. i can't see how the interior can be "mint" when i can see the headliner hanging down in the xmas lighting pic... walk away... better yet, run!
