Question STi Center Tach?

Ok i didn't know if this would be in dressup or powertrain or what, so i stuck it here, please fell free to move it if needed moderators.

I saw on the STi webpage the center tach piece...

and was wondering if anyone has put this in there car, i know that it reads Kph but i can have that switched to mph myself, but will this work in our cars, i mean will it show the right speed and rpms. If you have done this how about some pictures?

as far as I know, this centre tach is for STi v4 and older. V5 and up don't have a removeable speedo/tach so the entire console has to be changed.

Nope, it will fit the 5 and 6 as well. Biggest problem is wiring. Trey Cobb sells them adapted to fit the US Impreza RS's, not sure of the price offhand- I think it was around $600.

oh and FYI the wiring isn't exactly the easiest thing to cross over

also since that reads in KPH if you can't do the conversions quickly in your head a company out of the UK makes a converter kit that will allow the KPH to actually still display MPH on the KPH display so you could conceivably go 260mph if you had the gearing and HP the speedo would read that high anyway

I looked at the Cobb thing a while ago and remember something about it not being legal here in the US due to the odometer or something. I don't remember exactly what it was, but I think Cobb's site said it would reset the odo back to 000000, and from then on read in kilometers.

That sure looked nice, esp on a turbo'd RS. 260mph??? I don't think so....

I wish I had that when I got my dash changed. Saved me the hassle of the install, and also not resetting my odo twice. Why can't they run it up before the install to the correct mileage?? Must be some laws preventing things like this - I would make this swap right after the turbo if I can keep my odo reading.

With the STi instrument panel, you get greeted every time you sit in your car with a massive 10,000 RPM tach sitting dead center in the instrument panel where it belongs. The speedometer is moved to the side where your old tachometer resided and as it's a Japanese spec item, reads in Kilometers/hour instead of Miles per hour. We make modifications to the unit to allow it to plug right into the North American spec Impreza and have thoroughly tested it to insure everything from the gas gauge to warning lights work properly. Installation takes only 10 minutes start to finish and do NOT require any modifications to your factory wiring to allow the factory panel to be easily re-installed. This is an ENTIRE panel replacement, not just the tachometer and speedometer.

This unit if for off-road use only. The odometer reading is at zero when this new unit is installed and will read in kilometers, not miles.

PART # DESCRIPTION PRICE
811 401 STi Complete Instrument Panel $749.95
811 402 STi 10,000 RPM Tach / 280 km/h Speed Assembly $474.95

dude..read read my post..i said IF the gearing and HP were high enough what..did edjucation just get thrown out the window

it converts the speedo to READ in mph on the kph display, so if the display reads 260kph top speed and you get the kit from the UK to make it read as mph on the kph display you could see if you were going 260kph

you though i mean the car could go 260... very very unlikly

If everyone can wait a week I am custom making gauges for my car and I am switching the tack and the speedo. It is actually in my case just a scaling adjustment after they are set up. Hard for me to explain but when i am finished i will have step by step and photos. I will let everyone know when I am finished.

Snyder.

To make it easier for me and not hog the system email me if you interested and I can send out the directions and information by email. Thanks
