Why are KYB/AGX's so cheap?
Im curious why you can get a set of KYB/AGX adjustables for like $400...and basically every other strut set out there i see is in the range of $1200-$2000 ???
And ive even heard good things abou the KYB/AGX's..

they are a great option if you can't afford the coil over set ups...
they worked really, really well...
they are $100 a corner... and um... well.. to be honest... i blew one out completely. yep. only had them on for mere months and completely blew 1 of the rears...
so you kind of get what you pay for... but at $100 a corner, you can easily buy another one...

You're comparing apples to oranges, that's why.
First of all, the AGX is actually quite unsophisticated. It is a dual tube shock, which means that the actual piston volume is small relative to the strut's external diameter. (Larger pistons equal more precise control.) It also means that it is prone to foaming as well, since the fluid is under very low pressure compared to a monotube shock. Finally, the AGX utilizes a linear damping rate which allows for unsophisticated and inexpensive damping.
That said I'm very happy with mine-- good shock for the money. The danger is paying big bucks for unproven struts... but there is a reason the Ground Control coilovers with AGX struts are <$800 and Ground Control's own struts makes it closer to $2000.
Read some modern chassis tuning books, they'll tell you all about shock damping... Older books aren't nearly as valuable because major inroads have been made in the last few years.
