Sounds pretty good, what kind of options did you get with it?

well just starter and timer thats all.... I could have gotten another for $30 more and it comes with keyless entry, starter kill and trunk option. Not sure if I need all those features though since I rarely open the drunk anyway. I got the stock keyless entry already from Dealers so thats why I opted for this cheaper one.

Package is actually still in the shop since the audio guy took off before I arrive the store.

I went to the one on SE Marine so what would I do with the one I just purchased if your friends can help me get better price? Still waiting for boxing day to come in a few days. If its better and cheaper then the current price then I'll refund it.

I could use one, cold starts at bcit at like say 2-3am its freezing and my car takes like 4-5 mins to warm up. Would be nice and go to a warm car after a hardnights work.

IMO all WRX should come with a remote starter and timer stock..

This is the only car I have ever owed where I notice a drastic difference between a warmup and a cold drive.. I never drive it cold now, the first start of the day it always runs for atleast 3-5 mins before I drive it.

Remote start is the worst gas waster ever! It only serves as a convience to the driver & passenger.

Speaking from a gas-usage and engine wear side, it is much better to drive the car at an easy rate to warm up the car than to let it idle warm. It'll reach normal operating temperatures much quicker with an "easy drive" than just idling. Also, the tranny and other bearings will also have a chance to warm up while driving, which does not occur when you just let your car idle.

So those with a remote-start, just because your engine is "warm", doesn't mean the rest of your car is ready to go!

I need one so I don't have to sit in my car getting it warm up. I wouldn't mind the "easy drive" factor if my family knew about it. Sister would end up driving it like there is no tomorrow since she always procrastinate on leaving the house early for work.

Compared to 'just driving it' .. there's no comparison to a proper warmup.. And if I can just hit a button 5-10 minutes before I need to leave, that's not much work..

Oh an I don't pay for gas.. Work does! :P

There was a debate on a car forum that warming your car up for more than 30 seconds isn't good for your internals?

I keep it warmed up for 2 minutes and drive it "safe" until the entire car is warmed up.

autostart has been a godsend to me ever since i got my compustar. i can leave the defroster/defogger on full with the seat heater on so i'm not a frozen brick scraping my windows in the morning anymore

now if they can only invent something that can make the car wash itself

The CompuStar remote needs a clock.

come on, this is vancouver, it doesn't get THAT cold here to justify a remote starter. it's just wastes gas.

Yes its arguably a waste but I'd rather waste a little then to scrape ice off my car in the middle of a night, freezing my butt off after a brain deadening amount of hours worth of work.

I prefer to just have it warm up for it while I am upstair in my apartment getting ready for school or work. Instead of spending an extra few minutes sitting in the cold interior and wait.

ditto... nothing more fun than thawing my car out at 6am every day. i end up wasting the same amount of time with the car running w/o an autostart and having it warm up while i clean the glass, so i would rather be doing something else and let the car defrost itself. i guess some other people have more time than i do in the morning.

on a side note... has ne1 here had to de-ice their door locks? i tried lock de-icer from crappy tire and it etches the paint as the excess runs out of the door lock... is there a better way of doing this?

Oh boy! Look at how OT this thread has gone after my litle editorial! Sorry 'bout that Leo.

Anywayz, as for a lock de-icer, I've seen those little battery-operated deicers which look like a thin little toothpick which you insert into your keyhole. Then it warms up and thaws out your keyhole.

How about dipping your key in some antifreeze and then putting it into your keyhole?

Guess it's better to figure out the best way of unfreezing your key now while our weather is still warm eh?

Actually, I'd still use an autostarter even if I was in Vancouver. Just so I can get in my car and go.

I used those Crappy Tire Deicer liquid before and they didn't always work on my beater's keyhole. I found warm/hot water is a better alternative when I pour it over the keyhole and handle.
