AutoX'n in an automatic: which to use? D-3-2-1?

Which do you people use? I've noticed that when I'm in 2, it's really really slow off the line, whereas the other gears seem to have more punch off the line. I have AWD, by the way. Why is this? I know there are some people here that have an auto and race with it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you put the shifter into 2 then that's what the car starts in, second gear, hence the long lag before the power kicks in. I put it just in D when I autocrossed, but I probably would've done a lot better if I have it in 3 or 2...just put it in 3 to start off, then if you feel like playing put it in 2. Depends on what the course layout is like as well.

Well I put mine in 1st and when needed, shifted it to 2nd and kept it there.

I normally start in 1 with a small brake stand (hold foot on both brake and gas to get RPM's @2k) and then as I get close to 6Krpm I shift to 2 and that is normall all that is needed unless it gets tight and then I shift it back to 1. If it opens up alittle bit I shift to 3.
