It has been said before, but Santa Cruz Subaru rules. Through Bruce, I had some goodies installed including new suspention setup using KYB AGX struts and Eibach springs. They did an excelent job, I smiled the whole way back over the hill to San Jose.

For those who are interested, we charge $623.00 labor to install the KYB struts.
We sell the parts for the same price offered by Cobb Tuning or SPD tuning plus the shipping and tax. After installation, we sublet the alignment to our local alignment shop, which is an additional $79.95.

bluesaint-That price is for the labor. We calculate the labor at 7 hours x $89.00/hour.
The labor guide time for this job is 8 hours.
Remember, you are paying a top notch Subaru technician to do this work, in a professional shop, with all the right equipment. We also warranty this work for one year, unlimited mileage. When we buy these struts from Cobb Tuning, he stands behind the parts for one year, unlimited mileage as well. The alignment is warranted by the alignment shop for 6 months. We have installed 5-6 sets of these struts so far,and every customer has been extremely satisfied. You can certainly buy these parts and install them at home(I work on my own car at home-but I have been a professional mechanic for many years). Anyone who has done this at home without the use of a big jack and the proper tools/stands knows it is not easy. Ask the guy who drove his car here after installing his own struts, ruining his brand new right rear tire after grinding it into the strut(he didn't bother to check the camber before driving off). This service is for people who want professional service, and can't do the work themselves.

That is a bit steep. Even as professional as you guys are, I mean dont get me wrong I did buy my car from you guys and referred at least 3 people.

That is like what the parts cost. Good for them, they have the extra cash.

The warranty part is nice, but it is expected for those parts to last at least a year.

edit- No wonder my labor for the carbon fiber trim, rear diff protector, short shifter and anti allergy filter was like $500+. I wish I had known that i had to pay for labor i would have installed most of it on my own, without problems.

Thats what happens when you order your car so early that they cant put the options on at the port for FREE as it should be, I mean it is an option.

Santa Cruz is still my favorite dealer.

I hate to say it but that is how much I would charge if I were to do it, if I could also do an alignment. Those struts are a pain in the butt to get in and out.

But after doing them about 7 times you know what to do and know the problems, as I am sure a professional Subaru mechanic would. I think it would take me about 7 hours to do them also.

Well next time do it by yourself with one jack, two stands, no spring compressor, and no O-Wrenches. And don't cut the bracket that holds the brake lines.

skywalker, i actually took out my stocks, put the tein coilovers in with no air tools, no spring compressor and just with 1 jack and a impact wrench in 2 hrs. This includes taking the stock pillowball mounts off the stock struts and putting them on the TEIN struts as well.

Bruce don't get me wrong, you guys rock, and i even refered a friend who bought a black wrx wagon from you guys, but was just wondering why the steep price and the 8 hours worth of labor to do this especially when your service guys are top notch.

OK guys-It's no big secret that you can save money by working on your own car. We are paying top dollar for good techs and running this kind of business costs huge overhead. We are a flat rate shop and use a mitchells labor guide which is accepted nationwide.
-But seriously-If you guys need cash, and like to work on cars, why don't you come down here and work for me? We can turn you into a Subaru expert, you can make good money with benefits, you get a great deal on parts for your car, and living or working in Santa Cruz is awsome! It's opposite the heavy commute traffic, and I am always looking for good techs.
