Post OT: Should I get cable? (Speedvision is available)

I've been resisting getting cable for a long time now, because, well...It's kinda costly hehe! However, the basic package would include Speedvision. What do you all think? Should I spring for the $40 (or so) a month it would cost me?

If you're willing to get cable just for Speedvision, or more specifically for the WRC coverage, then why don't you just pay someone on this board to make you a tape? That's how I got to watch this year's.
Just my 2 cents, seeing as how I have cable w/o Speedvision and there's still nothing to watch.

Because I also enjoy The Learning Channel, The History Channel, The Discovery Channel, SciFi Channel, Comedy Central, etc etc ...Plus I don't get certain channels with the broadcast reception that I currently have (NBC, CBS, and I get ABC only on a good day). I had thought about having someone just make me tapes, but I do want the other stuff cable has, too...

If you enjoy all those channels, get yourself cable and a TiVo.

I'm trying for the 'minimal funds required approach'

Minimal $$ approach? Then, sneak over to your neighbor's house while they're away, and splice into *their* cable... It's minimal $$ until you get busted.

I can relate entirely, though, Fido. I'm still receiving only over the airwaves...

Over here, it's an additional $5/mo to upgrade to digital cable, which brings a great channel guide, enhanced picture quality, and another 100-something channels, one of which is Speedvision, so I think it's a great investment!

on the tivo topic...
you can win a 14 hr model by going to www.tivo.com
I just got mine in the mail... they are pretty good chances to win --> they are giving away 10 a day for a short essay.
there is one catch, you have to sign up for service (15 a month, but you can cancel after a month has passed)
btw my essays wasn't that good & I won.
good luck
