Question Does this seem overpriced to you?

02 wrx, my driver's side, front window motor went bad and doesn't work anymore, the window wont roll up or down. when the main motor siezed it took the other motor in the door with it (how it was explained to me) ... they ordered a new one of each, and said the parts were going to be just over $500 ... doesn't that seem a little expensize to you?

For window motors? No... I have an old Mazda 626 ('87 maybe), which blew a drivers window motor. I think it cost about $400.

Expensive?, nope. But, aren't you still covered under warranty?
Also, 2 motors? ***?? If it were me, I would pull the door apart and look for myself.

A co-worker had an alarm and window problem. The VW dealer said it was a bunch of things and it would be ~$900 to repair.

He asked me and we looked at it. The problem was the wires running from the chassis to the door had overstressed and broken. Some power wires were shorting to each other.

We fixed the problem in about 1/2 hour for less than a buck.

it is expensive... new window motors for my M3 were $165/each.

-mike

plus subaru techs are pretty weird... they like to charge about double the time it take @ ~$100 per hour for labor.

not sure what else you need...

you could buy these parts discounted from an on line source
then take them to the dealership to install???

just one option.
good luck

Anyone else recall seeing a TSB or something about the window motors not being mounted properly and it causing them to burn out prematurely?

Unless you're messing around with the window every minute you're in the car, this is not something that should go bad this soon.

Edit, here's a related thread and another.

I know some people have had issues with the window, usually the drivers side, due to using the glass as a handle to push the door closed and thus damaging window related parts.

I had problems with the windows in both front doors. The window regulators both came loose, and caused a loud knocking. At one point, my drivers window would not move at all. This is a known issue. As to whether or not there is a service bulletin, I do not know. Both regulators were repaired/replaced under warranty.
