Default I want internet radio in my car

I hate normal radio.

XM/signus/whatever is no good to me. they don't play most of the music I like. there's only one channel I'd even bother listening to on either service, and that's the generic trance channel. not worth the cost.

BUT... internet radio kicks ass. I can listen to Rant Radio Industrial for hours and hours. EBM/industrial is definitely my flavor of choice. and when I get sick of that, there's an infinite number of channels broadcasting crappy prog trance. I love crappy prog trance.

I would gladly pay if there was a service that allowed for internet radio in the car somehow. I realize the logistical nightmare involved. but still. it'd rock.

There are components for home systems that play internet radio, IIRC. Not sure what format they require.

Igg, check out Cyberage . They play industrial, EBM, synthpop, noize, etc. I'm pretty sure you can download entire shows (3 hours + each). You could then burn them to disc I would think.

There's a local Modern Rock station near me that has obtained a large international audience via Internet Broadcasting.

Due to the huge demand for them, they are considering broadcasting via Satellite. There's a lot of things to consider(i.e. commercials, news, etc...due to no longer being a local broadcast only), but they are looking into it. I think you'll see more stations going this route in the future, once the logistics are figured out.

WAAF near me is a pretty good station as far as rock goes, and they broadcast on the internet. more stations should. BUT I need to get it backwards! I need to hear the internet in my car, not the car on my internet!

funker - excellent! thanks for linky. the ".cx" frightened me for a moment, but I managed to get thorugh

Sorry, no idea

What I did before I had a burner was hook a tape recorder up to my speaker output on my computer. It worked decent enough

Im sure this can be done though. Cant Quicktime, or WMP save the streamed download? Perhaps its in a cache. I really dont know, Im not a computer guy

*EDIT way to go The_triton!

Thumbs up

Igg, try Total Recorder from www.highcriteria.com. I do something similar with the audio channels from Direct TV. Record from sound card then burn to CD. It is one long 80 minute track but I don't mind it.

That's exactly what I was gonna suggest. Some people who have gotten Verizon phones have found a loophole where they get the 3G data service for free (I haven't been able to get it though) Then connect your cell to your laptop connect at ~170kbps. Then just stream some shoutcast to your laptop and send that to your car stereo

I am using such a loophole on my Sprint PCS phone, however even that bandwidth isn't enough to get a decent quality sounding audiostream without lag and buffer filling (i'm talking at least 96 kps). Plus even tho its free, listening to these streaming broadcasts is the same amt of data transfer as d/l mp3 audio files continuously and the companies will catch on and even use as an excuse to cancel your accts.
