Haha, that's because for the 2nd year in a row you guys have not followed us to Stage#4 to spectate! We had so many people on that "non-spectator" stage that me, Matt & Crazyhorse signed up on the spot and cordoned off a spectator area and they let us stay! Best spot EVAR!!!! We only had to help dig 3 cars out this year though! Pics soon!

Hey, anybody know these goofy-looking people?

(that's anders88, Amy the co-driver/girlfriend, and Fredswyfe is in the background working)

Great weekend, good to see everybody, hope you all had as much fun as I did. I'll be posting more photos sometime tomorrow... meanwhile, here's another preview:

Oh, PS - mattinfl and I both got to drive through that. Are you jealous? Well, that's what you get when you volunteer to marshal.

i volunteered to work a station on SS2 and SS5. the view wasnt awesome, but it was better than the spectator area there. unfortunatly my camera ran out of batteries before the start of SS5. the cars were a lot more sideways where i was on SS5 vs. SS2. oh well, i'll charge the battery next time

i missed

That's because for the 3rd year I haven't driven down there on my own. I'm always riding with someone else. I thought about asking to ride with Matt since it looked like he had more room in the wagon and I was crammed in the backseat of the STi but figured I would do it after the next stage...but you guys went to the Nabisco area on Stage4 and we didn't. Problem solved for next time. You guys coming again if they run this in the fall like last fall?

Do I sense bitterness towards Velma? JP didn't seem to have any problem.

Had a good time. The nasioc spectator area was cool, one car got so dug in, I had to drag him out with the Yukon after the stage was over with.

Going in to that area was a BLAST! I decided to shoot for the deep spot in a water crossing and how have water lines up to the tops of the fender wells.

Looking forward to next time.

I will try to get some pics on sometime today.

Working stage 4 with Fred & Fredswyfe was awesome. You guys have no idea what you missed.

I had to stop twice on the way home yesterday to scrape junk off the wheels and fender wells. Took waaaaay too long to get home after a delay on I-75. 11.5 hours later I arrived home very tired.

As usual, I had a great time and it was great to see everyone again. I'm hoping for a fall event and Opie and I were discussing attending other NASA rallies in the Southeast as well.

Had a blast. Can't wait until the next rally. I may have to catch a WRC event outside the U.S. Maybe Mexico.

Now you'll just have to keep the wife from rallying the forester! Had a blast roaming around with you guys. I only bit off about half my nails when I found out Dale drove my car at stage 4. I know Callie had a wonderful time as well but I can't convince her to register here so I'll just have to speak for her. Next time... I get to work the fun part of stage 4!!! Sitting out in the middle of the grass on a straight away didn't make for the most exciting video/pictures.

Oh.. and... You know you are all still jealous over my ducky pajama pants.

I'll let Anders tell the full metal-on-metal story but suffice to say that it was due to Kent and I getting stuck in a _really_ dangerous spot and the @#$%$ sweep (sweep ran between 2wd and 4wd for "safety") didn't hold the stage to get our cars pulled out of the way.

Co-driving was a lot of fun. I got completely lost in the notes on stage 1 but resynced at the spectator area then was fine for the rest of the time. NASA is using a strange Canadian style timecard that confused the heck out of everyone, including the control workers. I was instructing the worker on how to fill out our card, that's how ugly it was! (Remember, I've never done this before! )

After we slid off and got stuck then pulled out by Anders after his impact things were going very well. I had finally figured out how to read the notes, Kent was getting comfortable with the car and surface, and things were getting fun. Suddenly, over a small crest it feels like the car popped out of gear. Cuss a bit, "Put it back in gear!" Kent's like "it is!" Hmm... What's happening here? We coasted off to a very safe spot and stopped the car. As soon as we stopped moving we noticed the clouds of smoke rising from the hood. After putting out the one surviving triangle (The others got hit at the place we got stuck. Told you it was dangerous!) we started poking around on the transmission as the grinding noise sounded like half-engaged gears. Turns out it was an outer CV joint. Apparently DSM's like to eat CV's. After sitting in the woods for about an hour, waiting on a tow, a huge lifted bronco showed up towing a VW. We made a 3-car tow rope train and got drug out to the service area. I found someone with a spare axle (like fools we left them in Kent's garage. D'oh!) and we started trying to swap it out. Unfortunately, after much thrashing, we figured out that the axle we borrowed was the wrong one for the car. Its splined area that plugs into the transmission was too long so it would never work. Finally at about 2:00 or so we gave up, packed the trailer, and went to spectate/drink beer for the rest of the afternoon.

Apparently Rally is sort of intense... After spectating we went back to the hotel to clean up. I laid down to take a nap and woke up at 9:45 pm!

You guys will have to come down for the Rally Alabama (on a HOT HOT HOT Alabama Night in July)....

Biggly, do you have a batch file or something that re-sizes and adds the black border? If so, can you share your wares with me???

Thx,

Nathan

Oh, and Opie - my car is just a liiiittle bit dirtier than yours.

After the 4th stage mud bog/ etc., you couldn't even see the front suspension - the dirt was filling all the gaps. Also had to stop at a gas station and spray the wheels out so the steering wheel would stop shaking.
