Arrow I Heard a Rumor from a Subi Salesman today...

Rumor is that it is finally official. WRX has passed emissions and will be coming to the US in 2004.
(I heard this from a Subaru sales person, so it may be late-breaking or early-breaking.)
It will have the European motor. That's all I knows.

She may be speaking of the JDM WRX.

In any case, I don't buy it. If the 2002 model will be ~$26ish, figure the full-on double-throw-down WRX would be $35G, easy. Never sell, Subaru would never try.

Cool

Well I heard that it was approved in 2004 as MY 2002 but, it had to be backdated to 2001 in order to meet the OSHA clean workplace rules. Unfortunately FEMA felt that the turbo could cause flooding in the outerbanks region, therefore it had to go through the whole application process again. Environmental impact statements are pending with the Army corp of engineers, but then again the NEA is completely against school vouchers, so it may be 2005 before the new Subaru is available in Guam and Singapore. Then again Janet Reno has already spoken out about the dangers of underage cigarette smoking and the Pope has warned about excessive fornication, so it's anybody's guess. Well at least that is what my sources say.

Tim

Yup. Subi Chick, when the WRX gets to America shores in February of 2001, it will be the 2002 model year Impreza. Don't ask me why, I have no idea. I'm just glad I won't have to wait until August '01 to pick mine up!

Question

Rsquire, can your sources say if it is the European Turbo or the "New Age" WRX?

Inquiring minds want to know.

since we always get the "bad stuff" maybe we'll actually get the old impreza GT or something while other countries get the new WRX.

Thumbs up

This according to Motor Trend, "2002 Subaru Impreza: All-new. Big news is that the WRX-inspired version will be offered in the States touting a turbocharged 2.0-liter/220-horsepower flat four." Hope this makes ya happy!

Talking

I was speaking with a Scoob rep at the Subaru track day yesterday and he said WRX's would start getting delivered maybe by late Feb, March for sure. I tried to make him 'estimate' on how much power he thought it would have but he declined. I said something like, "Well, I doubt they'll give us anything more than about 220" and he replied, "Well, it's a safe figure but you may be surprised." Or to paraphrase: "Heh heh, look at Chaincat squirm as he tries to finagle any tendril of information from me."
Oh well, it may be ugly but I will buy one. When people ask me if it's fast I'll tell them, "Hell yeah! Why do you think Subaru made it so ugly? It's trying to outrun it's own bodywork..." Lol, but who knows, maybe it'll grow on me. Someday I'll look at pictures of my RS that I have now and ask myself what the Subaru designers were thinking. Well, maybe not.
