Post OT: Idiot trucker killed by own rig!

The complete story is on our web page - www.wnyr.com - headline news - local news

10/2/00 - CAYUGA COUNTY, NY MAN KILLED WHEN HE IS RUN OVER BY HIS OWN TRUCK

A Sempronius truck driver was killed Friday after he tried to stop his tractor-trailer as it rolled down an incline near his Franklin Road home, state police reported.

Kevin Hammond, 30, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hammond parked and exited the vehicle, but it began to roll because it was on an incline, investigators said. Hammond ran in front of the vehicle and it struck him, knocking him to the ground, troopers said.

Yes, that's right, boys and girls, you can't stop a tractor trailer rig by stepping in front of it.

Darwin nominee?

Thumbs down

Why didn't he just go for the door so he could pull the emergency brake? Even if, why the hell would he try to stop it with himself?

I think he's a Darwin Winner

I could understand going to throw a big rock or log in front of the wheel, but your head? I think hollow objects just won't work in that situation.

Definetly a Darwin Award winner.

I agree with Alex, show a little respect for the dead. He was probably attempting to get into the driver's seat when he was struck.

(Let's see... park on right shoulder, cross in front of truck. Yep, that's normal.)

Sad enough. You might be surprised what you do when you panic.

Yeah, we shouldn't make too much fun of this guy...

A few years back, a radio DJ was making fun of a lady who ran over herself with her own car. Basically, about the same thing happened; as the car rolled backwards toward her, she panicked and stepped behind it. It knocked her over and rolled over her. The car then dragged her down the driveway, across the street, over a curb and into a yard.

I retold the story to some friends--stating that she'd never win another argument again in her life; "Honey, you forgot to pick the kids up from school?!" -- husband would just reply, "Yeah! But you ran over yourself with your own car!!!"

About a week later, my friend Kim was telling the story to a coworker, again making fun. But it turned out that the lady she was telling the story to, ended up being the same lady that this happened to.

I ended up meeting her (I don't remember her name), but she was a really nice person. Believe it or not, she was quite intelligent. She had just panicked.

Well, due to the accident, this lady is no longer able to carry a child. And to make that worse, she and her husband had just decided that they wanted to have children.

I felt very bad for this woman, and I still feel guilty for making fun.
