BTW - Email Max (Gruppe-S) about my tranny. Here's his response.
"Hi, Some of the trannies for the AA have the SureTrack as well... the AA, BA, CA are indications of production revision class, not necessarily what they are... most of the AA's do not have suretrac, but we always request our trannies to have suretrac. Thanks Max"

As for my catalog: It is NOT. As for the photo I say yes.
As it being suretrack... do the test... turn the driveshaft... it front axles turns opposite, you DON'T have a Suretrack. However: Take a look at Max' answer to my e-mail. I can't do the test yest, since I don't have the driveshaft and axles here. But as soon as I get them, I will test and see if my 6MT has indeed SureTrack as I requested. |

So if i do the test (already did and they turn oppsite) does that mean i have the other lsd then? Somewhere somebody said that the 03 jdm sti 6mt ALL have a front lsd. So does that mean i have the "Other" lsd or what?

Ok, Which driveshaft are you referring to? There are 3 of them
! I was turning the front driveshaft, not the rear spline that goes to the rear differential.I turned the front ones, they go the opposite direction. When i turned the back one, they both wen the same way. Any ideas? Thanks Brent I called gruppes (didn't talk to max, but someone else) and they said that if it's from a 03 New head lights, not the old round ones, then it's almost for sure that it has a limited slip in the front. |

I think i've figured out the mystery with many hours or searching
.jdm 2000 and up 6mt-Suretrac was optional-If someone opted for it then you will have the dccd unit with auto mode-13.0:1 quick steering ratio and possibly 17'' wheels. Other things would be no transmission oil cooler and the engine would have a regular oil cooler on it and not the air to oil one of the spec c. Does anyone agree with this stuff? I pulled all this information up on different jdm exporter websites and it's pretty much conclusive. If this is true....and i hope it is....then i have dccd and a suretrac front lsd. Brent |

That test doesn't work on a Suretrac diff just like it doesn't work on a Quaife diff. It's a torsen type diff, in that it needs to sense a difference in torque from one wheel to the other to work. If there is no load on one side of the diff, it acts like an open diff. |

That's cool, so there's still hope. Right now i'm thinking i do have a suretrac front diff.
Here's the next question-can you mix a suretrack front diff with a viscous non suretrack rear diff? In all the jdm reviews that i read the cars were either one or the other (either front and rear suretrack mechanical lsd or viscous open front and viscous rear lsd). Brent |

All info I have gathered on this last question is exactly the same you wrote. (either front and rear suretrack mechanical lsd or viscous open front and viscous rear lsd). |

Brent,
How is your tranny doing? I have the same thing in my car (waiting on the driveshaft), and I think it is DCCD. Any drivability problems? Did you use a 3.90 rear diff, or is yours a 4.44? Curt |

Curt:
Im sure he has a 3:90 Using a 4:44 will give you very fast acceleration, but will top at around 115-120mph with that 6-speed. If you look at the front diff, does it has a "shaft" in the center? |

I didn't look at the front diff at all. We just stuck the tranny up there and when we were hooking up the wires, we found a 6 pin plug where my 5 spd had a 4 pin.
My worry was that this was a 4.44 final drive tranny as opposed to a 3.90, but I think we are OK on that. Do you happen to have the ratios for the different trannies? I have searched several different ways, but I am not coming up with anything. Curt |

STi ratios: 3.636 (1st), 2.375 (2nd), 1.761 (3rd), 1.346 (4th), 0.971 (5th), 0.756 (6th), 3.545 (Rev.), 3.900 (final drive).
There are variations to these numbers, but just so you have an idea. |

just wondering, I have a ACT clutch and flywheel from my stock WRX tranny. If I do the Sti 6spd swap, can I still use this clutch?

AXA - Your tranny is NOT DCCD. Also depending where you got it from, it is very probably it is not SureTrac. Max from Gruppe-S tries to get them with SureTrac all the time.
Mine has SureTrac. |
