Question STi HID Color Temp?

What is the Kelvin Temp of my Sti's HID's Low Beam/ High Beam? They are different. . .High beams slighty yellower. Should I change them?. . .Brands? Color? Price? . . . I read the higher the "K" temp = less lumans( over5100K or something).. . .but the "cool " factor goes up. Who makes them for Subaru anyway?

Yeah, the STi's low beams are 4300K. I swapped the stock bulbs to 6000K Phillips replacements (from Dan over at Godspeed) and am very pleased with the change. They are a more whitish-blue (I felt the stockers were too "orangey") and it seemed to me and a few passengers that the color was a vast improvement in terms of visibility/usable light. As always and with everything - YMMV.

BTW, the highbeams aren't HIDs... they're regular halogens... Hence the yellow-ness.

Isn't the 4XXXK series the brightest series? I think anything above that it's just color. Check www.hidforum.com forfurther info. i'll try to search for the page for ya.

FYI Gents:

I too ordered some 6000K capsules from Godspeed. More recently I spoke to some tech people at Sylvania who explained that the 6000K "color" will be more blue (than sunlight at 5400K) and will actually produce less useable light. Fewer lumens in the blue portion of the color spectrum. No question they will appear brighter to the human eye though. Remember, the "capsule" output remains the same at 35 watts.

After aiming my existing HID's and OEM fogs I was able to improve long range and foreground coverage.

EHobron : Are they the "Ultinon 6000K's" What is the style? D2R or D2S. Price was $275.00. Do they look that purple. . .cause I really like that look (pix of the BMW 5 upgrade to those). Thanx, AJ

AJ,

Yes, they are the good Phillips units made in Germany. I have not received them yet but they should be a bluish color like the BMW's. The 8000K would look quite purple and produce even LESS useable light.

And not to mention BMWs HID color is derived from the projector lense unit, not the bulb. The bulbs they use are actually 4300K like the STi - just that the projectors and the lenses bend the light.
