My Turbo's On Order!!!

I just put down the deposit on a Black Granite Pearl 5MT Baja Turbo I just acn't wait. My dealer says 3-4 weeks, but I'm thinking more like 6-8 knowing my luck. I ordered it with the Auto-dimming mirror, subwoofer, and bed extender all for $23,250 plus tax, title, and tags.
I drove both a SportShift 4EAT and the 5MT that they had; and while the auto-stick side IS kinda fun, it needs another gear and it seemed like the shift lever was put too far to the passenger's side with it it auto-stick. But, I hear the '05 Legacy GT is getting a new 250 HP 2.5L Turbo with either a 5MT or a 5EAT Maybe I'll get the wife one as soon as I can get her out of the STS we've got now (not likely)

Yup, I've been eyeballing this since the '03 came out. Almost walked away after I drove the '03 Sport. Not a bad car, just not as strong as I wanted, especially for the money. But I held out because I heard the Turbo may/may not appear. I'm so glad it did! Now I must wait...and wait...and wait

I know exactly how you feel - I myself decided to get Baja T back in April 03 when it hit NY Auto Show. Long waited as I was told:

"oh, it's June with FXT" then

"it's delayed till October" then

"not sure if it'll come out in 2003 or not" back in November.

Needless to say, I was emailing SOA (thanks millions for your patience, John Mergan!) almost daily... Talk about indecisiveness - all this while I was holding off changing my almost bold tires on my Impreza. Luckily we only had a couple of snow before Christmas and I got mine the day it arrived at the dealer. I have no regret! It was worth the wait. I'm sure you'll feel the same way when you finally get your "Turbo Legacy happened to have a little bed (and extra 600lb)."

Yeah, pretty much what I went through trying to get a straight answer from SOA. But, yes, it's been worth the wait.

Well, I just went down to my local daler and made my order . did I get the point out that I am excited or what?

I feel that I got a good deal:
$26381.00 + TTL

Including:
4EAT, Leather, Dimming Mirror, Bed Extendor, Trailer Hitch, Air Filtration Kit, Turbo Gage, Rear Dif Protector, Moonroof deflector, hood protector (acrylic), splash guard, and rubber floor mats.

Now I need to just wait untill it gets here. I CAN'T WAIT. But the ~6 week wait for it to get delivered.

Me and my wife climed all over the car/truck for about 4 hours today. It was a lot of fun .

We went to Subaru of Santa Cruz and spoke with Charlie and it was a no hassel no haggle with the pricing and we got it with all the options that I want for under MSRP for a base model with leather and auto and that is it. That plus the free 3 years of lube, oil, fluid, and filter changes.

Congrats, Ben! About time... Looks like you got an excellent deal (well, talk about being loaded up!). Tell us how the turbo hood deflector looks and works. I saw a post in Forestet about a guy who found out normal Forester defledtor was lifting the air from the scoop causing mysterious (until this was confirmed) overheating. Never seen one for Turbo, neither on XT nor on Baja T. 6 week is a quite a long time, and I hope your dealer can snatch one en route to somewhere else. Le'me guess, it's black!?

well, 6 weeks is just fine with me because the longer the wait the bigger the down payment .

Interesting. I had been wary of the deflector due to the fear of drilling into the hood, but I had no idea that it could rob air from the IC. Let me know if yours acts up at all, BajaNut. Nice pick on the Baja, though. I drove the SportShift when it arrived here and it was a lot of fun, I just hate automatics period (I've blown too many of them).

I will let you know if i have any IC problems. I wanted the subaru deflector because it doesn't need any drilling into the hood for.

I spoke to Joe @ Lee Subaru today, it'll be THREE MONTHS before I see my Baja-T!!! I can't believe it is going to take that long to get this car in. Heck, they've had the same two Turbo's on their lot ever since the Baja-T was released! Oh well, some things are worth the wait (I hope).

I suggest you shop around, or at least check inventories from www.subaru.com to show your dealer someone else has one. They will then either a) do a dealer swap, or b) lose your sales. I don't like playing the game, but dealer should sweat for you a little bit - that's what you pay them for, right?

I've asked previously about the swap, but they seem hell bent on passing the cost of shipping the car here on to me, but why would I pay 2 destination charges. I even told him that if it came to that, I'd just assume drive to the posessing dealer and buy direct from them, as there won't be any extra charge. Oh well, I've got projects to do around the house so I'll use the lack of a car payment to knock some of them out while we wait. Maybe in the meantime I'll rattle his cage and see if he can snag one en-route to another dealer.

That's interesting - swap doesn't cost the acquiring dealer anything, as long as both cars are similary priced... Charging 2 destination fees are unreasonable, in my opinion.

Another thing you can do is to email SOA and ask them to track who has a car that meets your requirement. They're pretty good at the support role to get you buy the car - it doesn't matter to them which dealers get more sales.

Well, Joe said that since they trailer in the new car and trailer out the old that it raises the cost by about $500 (yeah, right). That's why I ordered the car to begin with.

sounds like the dealer is trying to screw you. I would shop around, and definetely email SOA about this. 3 months seems quite unreasonable, making me think they simply lied to you about the date because they don't know when its supposed to arrive. I bet SOA has no knowledge of this order. Do you have a VIN? Send the VIN with your email to SOA.
