Default Timex Helix watches, Do they really work?

Anybody out there sportin' one of the these timex watches?

Wondering if it gives accurate readings I can use in the back country.

Well there's various models for various sports. That one pictured is an altimeter, barometer and thermometer.

I would suspect that they would be accurate within a specified margin. If that margin is wihtin yours, then I see no reason that you whould be disappointed.

I always thought the Suunto watches were great. Anyway, small GPS are so cheap nowadays, and a much more useful tool in the back country.

no kidding, something like an etrex vista is 175 bucks or so on ebay
