Question For those who have STi Seats...?

For those who have the STi Ver. 6 front seats (black/grey/red), can you please give me your opinion of them?

How do they last?

How comfortable are they (esp. on bumpy roads)?

How do they feel (fabric)?

How do they look with the stock RS interior (black)?

Thank you very much.

Sean

>How do they last?

Just got them. They seem MUCH higher quality than the stock seats.

>How comfortable are they (esp. on bumpy roads)?

Firm and supportive, but comfortable. They really hold you in place, which I like. The seat is a much better firmness than the soft stock seats.

>How do they feel (fabric)?

Basic woven synthetic fabric. Feels substantial and high quality. The suede inserts are very nice.

>How do they look with the stock RS interior (black)?

Just fine. The charcoal/blue sections are mostly charcoal looking unless you get very close.

Sean, I sat in Richard's car last weekend, they were nice. Once I get the job thing figured out I thinking they are next in line after the DMS's. Richard would probably let you have test siting if you ask. Maybe even a drive.

Mike said that the seats are in stock and that he will ship by this Friday. He said that he has an engine coming in through customs in the near future...if that comes this week, he'll have to drop everything he's working on, which means my seats'll ship next Tuesday. Either way, I'm in Oregon and he's in California, which means that they should be here next week (UPS is 2 days by ground).

Does this answer your question?

How about the adjustability. Are the levers only on the right seat on the right side since they were for right hand drive? I noticed that's how it was on the 22B. The left side of the left seat had the lever which leans the seat forward and on our cars it should be on the right. How are the set up on the seats SPD sells?

Mike told me that the passenger seat has up/down control; whereas the driver seat doesn't. This is because the seats are taken from overseas where the driver is on the right and passenger on the left.

here is something i have been wondering: what is the argument for picking these over another aftermarket seat? sparco or any of the seats they make for other people (cobra etc). is there a performance/value reason? or is it mostly asthetic?

Well, the seat rails / sliders fit for one.

Besides that, I'm be compelled to get a reclining race bucket before handing over $1000+ to SPD for used seats.

M8,

My guess is that by buying the STI seats, you do not need to purchase a bracket for the seats and it's more of less a direct bolt-on. Although the seats may be similarly priced, the brackets for these aftermarket seats cost an extra $50-$100 per seat.

My reasons for choosing the STi seats:

1) I have sat in these seats once before (in Richard's car) and thought they felt very good. (I just didn't have any REAL experience with'm, which is why I started this thread)

2) They bolt in without problem.

3) They're readily available (no waiting! .

Question

Colin-

The seats that I bought from Mike are brand new...taken out of a brand new car. Isn't this the way they usually are?

Sean, I didn't mean to imply that they would be thrashed, I meant that for the money I personally would shop around.

Fitting easily is a big deal though!

Colin-

I agree...at $1281 (shipped) for the pair, shopping around is a very good idea

ok thanks people. i did'nt doubt that they would be comfortable, so were the cobras @ my local tuning shop. the cobras cost several hundred less which ,for me, negates the cost of a bracket. i think the STI seats are better looking but thats not a reason i can use for myself. thanks again.

Well the Sparco SuperSports with Alcantra fabric, which appear to be a similar design and look, list for $959. I'm not sure if that's for one or a pair. If its each, then they a way more than the STI seats. If its for a pair, then including the mounting brackets your at about $1050. Which is in the same ball park as the STi seats.

Recaro seats are definitely more expensive.

Would anybody with quite a few miles in Sparco or other aftermarket sport seats care to comment.

Right now I'm planning on going with the STi seats myself.

And for those who have the STi Ver 6 seats, are the bolsters actually red or are they more of a pink (as in STi pink)?

Thumbs up

I have had mine a week or so and I love em the only problem I have had as that my girlfriend thinks they are uncomfortable she is pretty short, Five-two and the shoulder bolsters are higher than her shoulders but hey they fit me great so she can complain all she wants hell she can sit in the back for all I care.
