Default Friction Noise When turning Steering Wheel

Don't know if this is the right forum to put this problem. Anyway, I hope my poor English can express my WRX's problem clearly.

My WRX is 2004 model. Recently, when I turned the steering wheel, I heard some kind of "friction Noise" under the hood. It's especially apparent after parking for a long time(like overnight)

Did anybody haev the same pronlem before?

If it feels crunchy it might be due to the power steering fluid/pump. I have the same problem, it makes a vibration in the wheel though when i turn.

I know the sound your talking about!

When I told the people here they thought I was going nuts

It's like a Pumpish sound.. I mean like 3 weeks a ago I went to pull up to the pump and I had to turn my wheels to the right.. lol a guy standing at the pump turned around and looked at my car.. I dunno I never heard it from the outside..

I might Mic my car up again

Also Check the Fluid Levels.. If the Fluid is low like mines and I try and turn the wheel right after I start the car it's like I have No Power Steering until about 3 Seconds later it's all fine, But I do need to add fluid If it's like my car it will be DEXRON ATF FLUID TYPE II or III.

I took the car to chasis garage. The crunchy sound was gone. Technician and I couldn't find any noise when turnng steering wheel. After I came home, the crunchy sound appeared in the next morning.

I have checked the pump oil level. It's between max and min.

Does anyone with another suggestion??

SAD, I thought Impreza is Bullet proof engineering...

When the car is at normal temp read the power steering pump dipstick If it's like you said then add some fluid to it.

Trust me the engine will last, I have over 132K miles on mine and it still runs great and no pump problems.
