Especially you guys, rajah and pilot hehe.
Anyways, These tires look too damn good to be true. If I dont get these, it looks like i have to go with the Bridge Potenza S-02 PP for 180$ each (215 45 17) Anyways, the Kumho Ecsta 712. What's the treadwear like (i think u told me rajah that it was somewhere around 280-300, but that seems really high) I guess what im trying to ask is, WHAT CATEGORY IS IT? Is it a street 'maximum performance' race tire like the S-02 PP? How is it in rain side note: i did do a search and read the entire post. still need more info :P

Ah, it's Ultra High Performance I believe. The man to ask is Duncan (PRODRIVEN). He's had a set as soon as they came out.
Sev, the almost ARE too good to be true - excellent tire at an excellent price! I'm sure they're not as sticky as the S-02's/MXX3's though - what is? |

Aloooooooooooooha...Cliff Ditchhanger has them in the 215/45/17 ZR flavor here in Hawaii...He's autoXed them twice...NO WEAR at all....He still trying to dial in the Airpressures...So far so good...was about a 2 seconds off the leading Scooby...They we NOT at the limit..YET..
On that note, I bought them for the wifes Jetta VR6 in a 205/50/16 ZR..Had them now for about 1000 miles...awesome...I am going to replace the Scooby tires when its time with the 712's...I rated them very high...Better than my Dunlap W-10...As good or BETTER than the S-02's for price and wear and about as good for grip...Hope this helps |

Mine doesn't complain at all except at the autocross. Then again, I have low profiles.

I looked at the Tirerack price
81$/corner for 205/50/16 WR's on the Ecsta Supra 712? are these tires for real? I wonder how far off they are from the max performance tires such as S02 PP's, toyo Proxes T1's , PZero's. if so, then thats a freakin' bargain. |

That exit ramp was dangerous above 40mph with the RE 92's, just to give you a picture of the speed, its a very tight exit, SUV's would roll over at 50 mph,LOL

I have been using the 205/55/16 size 712's and have found it to hold up very well. With the -2.5 negative camber I have set in the front, grip is tremendous at turn-in and constant radius. GEEZ! recorded max 1.14G and constant of 1.08 or something (without checking now, I will later and edit) at the Peru ProSolo this past weekend where I set the fastest time for STS on the left and took second in the class. And for reference, the Pilot SX took first and third, then it was Yokohama and MXXX after that.
I think the slightly taller sidewall tires like a 205/50 or a 225/45 will be a better handling tire than the short 40 series. There needs to be some dynamics to the tire, there is just no flex with the really short sidewalls and it causes the tire to give up easier in transistion. And a shaved 205/55 or 225/50 would be an decent choice for a STS race tire also. But personally, I want to run 225/45/16 once the set I have now is toast. Eric Silver 99 RS |

so basically this whole post was 'almost' a waste?
anyway, people have auto-x'd them. people have driven them on the track. two ways to look at it, they "complain" or the "communicate" either way you look at it they let you know exactly whats on their mind and how much 'more ' you can push them. Yes I loved them, but Im not going to write a book about them after I already wrote one which is in the archives. |

treadwear is 280...Temp:A Traction:A Wear:A
The sidewalls are very stiff, bumpy roads are no fun. The weak part is the suspension now, the bodyroll is more noticable. The grip is phenomenal, even in the rain. Take a 270 degree exitramp at 45-50 mph and the tires stick. At 55 they start complaining, oh well. In the rain the grip is way better than stock, the car doesn't seem to understeer anymore, just point and there it goes. Get em!! Marius 99 RS blue |

The traction I read on the label said : Traction : AA Temp. : A Treadwear : 280 The label is still in my trunk. Thought I'd keep it in case someone didn't believe me. ![]() |

As I haven't yet driven them I can't comment, fortunately the only thing that seems to good to be true is the price.
I can find no reason that the Kuhmo ECSTA Supra 712 can't perform as well or better than any other UHP tire. If somebody who has them will let me drive them I'll let you know but until then I just can't make any judgement. I do like my Victoracers though. EDIT: A is the highest temp rating [This message has been edited by Pilot (edited May 23, 2000).] |

I used them three weeks ago at the autocross.
I have a 17x7.5 rim and the Kuhmo I have are 215/40. The sidewall help up beautifully on extremely fast trailbraking corners. After each run, I checked the side wall for wear - they were clean. These are soft compound tires. My rear tires were at 35 PSI and I noticed no chunking. The fronts were at the max 40 PSI (a bit higher after each run of course) had no chunking but the tread felt like sand paper, of course. That's how soft they were. Had a bunch of Miata guys monitoring the wear on them and they were extremely impressed. [This message has been edited by Snoopy (edited May 23, 2000).] |

Tarmac RS went through a driving school on them and was ultra impressed. Personally I am going for that tire as soon as I decide to throw them on. A litle shopping around first since I think I know a few people at tire places that might be able to cut me a deal... we'll see. I'm almost hesitant enough to wait until my RE92's are completely gone (shoulder tread on my front right is nearly gone from 2 autocrosses), though I may take the time and go get suspension so I can space out my buyings a touch. *shrug* Confused as normal.
