Thumbs down 1 Less Rally Blue On The Road...

So I was on my way to work this morning, and a guy in a Ford Taurus comes from nowhere (well ok, he was leaving work) and shoots right across my path. He couldn't see oncoming traffic, but he certainly saw me as I demolished my poor little RS into his heavy Ford. Needless to say, the front end of my car is destroyed. I even think one of my TEIN's are damaged. The engine won't start (no surprise, since the radiator is crammed against it, and the hood looks like the lid of an open sardine can).

My car is destroyed. I think I may have a touch of whiplash, but that's not what bothers me the most. I loved that car!!

I feel for you, Jeff (Frey - who has his RS trashed 2 months ago).

Yeah, I'm ok aside from a sore jaw (no idea how that one happened - didn't crack my head into anything). A physical therapist told me it's usually a sign of a neck injury though.. so I'll be heading to the hospital to make sure. I'm not ruling out a law suit. I'm not one to hold a grudge though.

Thanks for the kind words!

I had an Eagle Talon TSi demolish my 2.5RS back in January. It was a side impact, the door and B-pillar crunched me in my seat (between the bolsters!), but I was OK. The most painful thing about the wreck was, of course, my car being demolished! I feel for you man...

However, it wasn't enough damage to total the car! I think the estimate (lowballed by GEICO) came to about $6K. So they repaired it, which took 3 months. And, after one complaint and sending it back for another week, I was surprised to find my car pretty much back to normal! I believe the total w/ rental came to around $11K. Any idea if you totalled it? Sounds like you might have, if the engine is damaged.

Oh, and my KYB AGX's and Ground Control's turned out to be OK after the collision. You wouldn't think a side impact would ruin suspension, but it was the impact with the curb after the initial impact that made me think they were damaged.

Hmm... I'm not sure it's totalled. I mean the front is pretty much destroyed, but I doubt the rest of the frame is badly damaged. I don't think they'll come close to the $20k in repairs for a total.

I ended up on one of those big USPS mail boxes. That couldn't be good for the front end either. The driver's side tire was torn to shreds, and the wheel was badly gouged. Looks nasty enough to make ya cry. Hope they can fix it as good as new!! *fingers crossed* I'm a little worried about all the aftermarket parts though, I doubt I have receipts for it all .

Very sorry for you man. But it is a good news that you're OK, since many people will suffer from headache for months after a collision like yours. Bad Ford, badbad driver .

That sucks... I hope they total it on your so you can go get a new one. Makes sure to take off all reuseable aftermarket possible!

Also, it was his fault, I take it? I sure hope so...

Just some info about sueing for injuries, for the most part it takes years in court to get any money. If you're lucky you'll get them to make a good sized settlement straight from hte insurance company and you'll be set wihtin a few months.

BTW, hope they cover your Tiens. hey tend to be bitchy about covering aftermarket equipement...

Subie Gal, can you say brake upgrade? Wish my car could do 50-0 in 20 feet. That's really good news that you didn't have to experience the same darn thing! Silly Fords.. *grr*

You guys are the best

[EDIT]
Yeah it was the Ford driver's fault. About the settlement thing.. he has the SAME insurance company as I - Progressive. What now?

Rajah,

Same insurance company...good...they can't use the excuse of "the other insurance company won't return our calls"...
If you get if fixed make sure you demand factory Subaru parts not cheaper aftermarket stuff...or use the money for any custom pieces you want...aluminum hood for instance...
My wife and I have progressive and have good records...we love'em so far...
Glad your ok though...!

That sucks... in my experiences Progressive lowballs EVERYTHING. Tried to total my sisters car that listed for like $2500 for like $850. It is good that you have the same insurance carrier though, make things much easier.

Have a Nice Day?

RallyGuy2k: It's more like I'll be at the repair shop showing the tech how to install all the aftermarket parts.. AFC, ALK, etc..

8Complex: That's so true. My friend Jeff (MY00 RS) has had some trouble with Progressive trying to be cheap! I hear Progressive's adjusters are always wrong!

In my experience, Progressive is great when it's the other person's fault. I was rear ended about 3 years ago (not the RS) and the other insurance company only wanted to pay to replace the bumper and get a paint job. My ins. rep. told me to take it to whatever body shop I wanted. They found structural damnage to the car and Progressive said go ahead with the repairs and if the other company doesn't want to pay we'll sue. I had nothing to worry about.

Glad to hear you're alright. Just curious, did the airbags go off? I would think from something like that they would.

If the car is more than 80% of the book value, it will be totalled. Also, if it's in the first year you own it, they have to replace it with a new one. (At least in NYS). Is there any additional damage you can do to it? Also don't forget that the engine may have been pushed into the tranny and rear end... i'd go down with a sledge and whack the crap out of it just for good measure.

Thumbs down

You guys crack me up.

No, the air bags didn't deploy (time to sue FHI.. hehe).

I think the tranny is destroyed. The shifting felt different when I was helping the tow truck guy.

This would all be better if it was September. 2001 Turbo?

Three years ago my SHO was rearended by a Camaro and he had Progressive. I got a quote from the Ford body shop that included OEM parts. Progressive came in 30% less (at least) and gave me a real hard time with the estimate I got, even though it eventually was fixed at the Ford bodyshop. Cheap bastards wouldn't authorize an OEM bumper- it was aftermarket.

That sucks Jason. At least you made it out unhurt. At this rate we will have no RS's left in Cinci. Hey, I had a red Neon too. Mistakes do leave room for upgrades though, Aluminum hood, lightweight bumpers, clear lenses, V5 grill. If one of your wheels are damaged, use the $370 and go get a set of gold take offs from tirerack ($436). You'll then have 11 wheels. Buy one more gold take off and have 3 sets (summer/winter/race) Maybe Shiv will even have those fender flares in time. I hope your Teins are allright. It might be hard to get just one. Good luck with the insurance company. I would push for it to be totalled, but unfortunatley its all about $$$$$ in their minds. Is your car at classic collis yet. It's like 15 min from my house. Maybe I could go up and take a look at it.

Jason and I went out to the dealer today and AAA came out and picked it up and took it to Classic Collision. The car is in pretty poor shape. Jason is lucky he wasn't hurt.

We took some pics of his car so I'd imagine he'll get em up here some time next week.
