Post Skyline Drive / Blueridge Parkway Meet?

Since that section of the mountains was rated one of the Top 10 scenic drives by that website posted last week... how bout a meet? I've been on sections. Its windy and twisty and georgous! Since it is a national park, we could camp out and make a weekend of it. Anyone interested? (I was thinking of doing it in the MD section, although it goes through several states)

When is good?

Sounds like a plan. After I get my 00 Legacy GT Wagon, I'm game... It would be like carlisle except we'd get to drive the twisties...

I would absolutely love to do this! I've driven the roads too, and they are sweet. There are a lot of NY/NJ/MD people, so turnout should be god if it gets organizd enough in advance.

I am soooo stoked, finally get my RS back tomorrow AM, with the new RA tranny!! it's been 4 weks, and I'm exhibitng definitive signs of withdrawl!

When? Heck....I'd buy a new telescope for star gazing! When? I'll bring the marshmellows! When? I've never camped before...well....not the REAL kind of camping(you know - no water, no "indoor pipes") like "Deliverance".

It sounds like the perfect thing for the Mid-Atlantic region to organize. Ill talk with the other members at the next get together June 4th at an autocross in Ft. Meade MD. Girl'sRS you should come to that event. What Im thinking is a trip starting with a meet either friday night or sat. morning, then do a TSD rally of sorts with 'check points' at senic spots with some really good maps and mileage. Ill plot it out on my bike. We could camp saturday, and plan a return home on sunday that would offer other points of interest.

What do you think, to much? Would a day trip be better? Once we get down Skyline drive, a trip back thru Charlottesville would be a long trip home for one day.

Even in mid summer its really not that hot up there in the mountains, especially at night. So I say we shoot for August.

AWESOME!! Im glad you guys are interested! umm...When? I'm down for August, far enough away so everyone can plan and Im not one for cold weather. Any weekend but the last one, colleges start back up then and some people may not be able to go. The exact date is up to consensius. I have some non-subie friends that might be interested, so why dont we make this an open event? A scenic gimick rally sounds cool to me.. I plan on camping, but Im sure it would still be accessable for people to day trip it. Anyone that would like input to planning the trip, email me at audrey@mccouch.com. I will try to find out about campground reservations soon, those go fast..

And make sure it's got indoor plumbing! Mosquito bites on the arse is not good for a long drive home.

Suggestions were made for the 1st or 2nd weekend in August... Word has it that late in the summer, it wont be bug season, all students should still be on vacation, and it will be fairly warm (the web site says its about 10 deg cooler up there than the valley)

http://www.nps.gov/shen/1b1.htm

Big Meadows is probably our best bet.

Damn! I'll get back on vacation a month too late. Maybe there will be a Toronto meet sometime while I am home so I can drive the Subie with other owners?

Cool

Add me to the list please. I camped Big Meadows last year, very nice. When we're not driving, I know a trail with about 10 incredible waterfalls a little further north.

Hey, my backyard is the Blue Ridge Parkway. I would love to get a train of car cruising through the mountains. You just got to watch out for the old geezers that are sight seeing at about 20mph. Man, i hate it when i get caught behind them. Please let me know where. I'm in!!

OK - I just called the reservation service. For approx 20 people we need 4 sites, 6 people max per site. They are $17 per night per site. There are plenty of sites for the 4th & 5th and also the 11th & 12th. We need to make these reservations SOON, trust me, National Park campgrounds go fast!! I believe admission to the park itself is $10 for a week.. but that will be paid individually upon entrance. How should we work $$? Paypal? Send me a check? I will have to pay for all of the campsites up front when I make the reservation. If everyone can send me $5 that should do it. If you are planning on bringing guests thats fine, but I need to know as closely as possible how many will be in attendence so we can get the sites next to each other.

Please vote on which weekend is better, or I will have to just make an arbitrary choice.

PLEASE POST OR EMAIL ASAP

Depending on exact date, I will come out and cruise with you all for a day, but won't stay overnight. You can expect it to be hot and buggy throughout August, with thunderstorms possible any day (usually afternoon/evening.) I hike/backpack fairly often in Shenandoah Nat'l Park, but rarely during summer due to heat, bugs, poison ivy, lots of people. Have you thought about doing this in the Fall?
