Question Help! I think my AC is broken!

I turned on the AC in my MY00 RS for the first time this weekend to battle the 100 degree heat in the Bay Area. The car was sitting in the garage all day and wasn't in the sun. So on the way to drop by my parent's house I turned AC. I kept my speed low so not to keep to circulate the oil in the AC system. Unfortunately, it never got cold. I got more relief rolling down the window. Has anyone else had this problem? Am I doing something wrong? I'd like to know before I make a trip to the dealer.

You kept your speed low to not circulate the oil in the AC system? What does that mean?

I found in my XT6 that i need to get on the gas initially to get the A/C to kick in. After that it doesn't matter, and it's really cold (for 12 years old I'm very happy with the A/C in it)

Since the AC compressor is driven by the engine crank, more engine RPMs should get it to work more efficiently, especially if you have an underdrive pulley.

The manual says to run the car at idle or low rpms when you first start using the AC to circulate the fluids in the AC system. I would think after 15 minutes of driving, the AC would get cold but it didn't. Looks like a trip to the dealer for me.

Check to make sure the AC compressor is even plugged in. There is probably a connector hanging next to the AC compressor. Chances are, the boys at the dealership werent paying attention when they prep'd it. Mine was the same way. They didnt bother to put the fuse in for my interior lighting either.

I dont take my car there anymore.

I question the A/C in my 99 2.5GT sedan also. The compressor DOES come on, but the AC never really gets cold. It's cool at best. I know the AC in my DSM will freeze my ba| |s off.

I plan on taking mine to the dealer.

I agree with the majority.. Check the A/C connector plugs above the compressor unit. When we first test drove the car, we checked the A/C and it didn't seem to work.. We popped the hood and lo and behold, the plug was disconnected..

Unhappy

Thanks for the tip Bluesaint. Is this something quick I could do, or is it something the dealer should do?
