Default OEM rim width

I did a few search but wasn't able to find what i'm looking for, my wording for the search might not be correct. Anyway, i was just wondering what's the width of our stock 16" rim? I thought they were 6", but i remember someone said they might be 6.5". Also, what's the rim width on a 2.5RS ( year 2001) stock rim?

thanks a bunch!

The 98 thru 2001 RS all had 16x7 wheels. They are a popular aftermarket upgrade for WRX owners. Used ones can be cheap, new ones run about $250 each.

The WRX sold in other countries comes with 17x7 wheels, as well as 4-pot front brakes and 2-pot vented rears

Aren't we the lucky ones?

from my understanding that the 2.5RS have a differnet offsets than us, would that still be okay to fit on our car?

Another question, what's the biggest tire size that we can fit on our stock rims, and still maintain enough clearance from rubbing and not too much of the tire hanging over, that the beeds might have a chance of coming off from drifting. I was thinking about 225-50-16's or maybe 215 - 55 - 16 (but tires are very limited at this size).

The RS wheel offset is +53. Anything from +48 to +55 is usually thought to be acceptable.

Lots of people run 225/50x16 on the stock WRX wheels. They will perform and look better on the wider wheels, however. In addition, you get an additional .2" of contact patch width for every .5" of wheel width, which you might notice when cornering hard in the dry.

I wouldn't worry too much about the bead coming off the rim. Some people run 225/50x16 racing tires on the stock wheels without problems on the track.

What about 16x7.5 wheels like the SSR Competitons or the ASA LW5? Or 16x7 Rota Slipstreams? Both the SSR and Rota are lighter than the stock wheels and RS wheels. The ASA is an inch wider than the stock wheel yet weighs the same.

Another potential benefit: the RS wheels and the SSR's will allow you to upgrade to the Subaru 4-pot brakes. The stock wheels and the Slipstreams don't have the room. Not sure about the ASA's.
