Default Newbie w/ a couple of questions

well, i just bought an 04 WRX Wagon.

i read the exhaust FAQ and could not find the answers to my questions.

1) do aftermarket exhausts for the 02/03 wagons fit on my 04?

2) is it worth it to get a brand name exhaust or should i just go with a custom set up from a muffler shop?

1. Yes.
2. Either way you want to go. Some have had great success with custom jobs. Many aftermarket exhausts are just piping welded onto a Magnaflow muffler with a $1000 price tag. Try to use stainless piping though, it is really worth the money.

It is worth it to get a brand name exhaust. Muffler shops crush bend their piping, so at the bends your exhaust will be slightly narrower ( because it's crushed.)

Almost all aftermarket exhausts will use mandrel-bent piping ( maintains a consistent piping diameter throughout the exhaust ) and flow a lot better.

I HIGHLY recomend the Helix Uppipe/Downpipe combo + a catback exhaust ( i recomend the BORLA HUSH catback, or the Helix catback. You can order this awesome set-up at MPJPERFORMANCE.COM for a mere $875 SHIPPED including all gaskets!!! ( vs. 1500 for a turboback at let's say, TurboXS.com )

Debbid,

Noticed you're in San Jose. You really ought to check out the Bay Area forums and go to some of the meets. Tuesdays at 8 at the Union City Krispy kreme is HUGE!

Also, FYI, MPJ is in Hayward, you ought to check them out if you want an exhaust.
